Should I Lease a 2018 X5 or wait for the 2019?

I was about to lease a 2018 X5 for 3 years but discovered recently that the 2019 is a major re-design. I saw that production is scheduled for August 2018. When does that realistically mean that I would be able to buy a 2019 X5 (I'm in California)?

I'm sick of my 2010 528i so want a new car asap, but also don't want to lease a 2018 X5 when a new model with a major resigned is coming out shortly.

Anyways, just looking for people's thoughts on this topic before I make a decision.

Thanks!

I just leased a new 2018, so you know where I stand. I figure that after 3 years the issues
from the redesign will be ironed out and I can jump into it at that time.

This^. First year cars always seem to have bugs. I'm planning to keep my 2018 for a few years and look to trade it if I find the G05 to be a notable improvement. The look of those front grills in spy pics and renderings look hideous also. Maybe it will grow on me...

Thanks! Any idea when the new 2019s will be available in the western US?

Got it - I've never leased before. Are you saying you can turn it in early for a new 2019 (or 2020) and then pay the differential?

Probably will not see them on Center lots until Mid October to early November.

I financed mine so I would just trade it in if I feel like going for the G05. But I do believe others have worked out early least trade-ins. You'd prob have to check with your specific dealer to see if that is something they would do.

Personally, I'd wait for the '20 if you can. It's nice to have the latest and the greatest but it sucks if there are bugs. I swore I'd never be the first to have a new model ever again.

On the east coast we start to see the new model year vehicles in late August. I have taken delivery in late August for an order. If you do opt for the '19, I don't think it would go out as far as Oct or Nov for the west coast as someone else stated.

It will depend solely on when BMW sets the officially launch date for the all new G05 X5 and typically it happens in the fall. The G01 X3 began production in August of 2017, but was not launched until the fall. There were thousands upon thousands of X3s stockpiled at Plant Spartanburg last October (more than usual), prior to being officially released. I saw them with my own eyes... Deliveries were occurring on the East Coast at the end of October even though BMW NA had instructed Centers not to deliver prior to November 7th or the 15th, I cannot recall the actual date.

On my last two leases BMW Financial has offered to get me out of the lease about 3 months in advanced without any penalty as long as I get into another BMW and use BMWFS.

As long as you are leasing, I wouldn't be worried about bugs. It's not your car anyways, and warranty will cover major issues. My dad was one of the very first to take delivery of the F15, and apart from the dashboard going out, it was problem free.

It doesn't matter if you lease the 2018 model or wait for the next gen. You will be done in 2-3 years and move on to next. Good thing about leasing last year model is that you tend to get better deals, less issues as most have been addressed. However, you will keep questioning yourself why you would lease an old car whenever you see the new model on the road.

On the other hand with leasing a new model, you hardly get any deals on new models, at least with BMW. Tends to have more issues but it's not always true. You drive the newest car that no one has seen so people will turn around for an extra look.

This is true, but doesn't one lease/buy a car because they want to drive it? I have friends that have had their cars in the shop a long time and were forced to drive POS rentals for months. If they wanted to drive around in a POS, they would have gotten one in the first place.

At that point you have a lemon and BMW needs to take it back.

I guess it depends on your tolerance. It is like beta testing technology. If you are ok with potential bugs and downtime, do it. If you want a fully tested system that is less error prone, wait until the bugs are fixed and wait a little while.

The 2019 X5 might be rock solid with no problems... but it might not!

Yep. And the same goes for the 2018. Could be problem free, could be full of issues.

It depends on the pricing, I just picked up a 2018 x5 msport in December, 630$ a month with bank fee dmv and first payment. You will not get this type of deal when the model is out, probably around 850 on the new one if that. Some people are paying this much for an F15 on this forum.

Point well spoken! I just picked up my 2018 last night and a hell of a deal also.

Get in early, and I've gotten as good of deals with the new body style. In fact, the deals were horrible in Sep/Oct of 2017 for current F15 so I bought my current lease out (then started adding everything I needed except a new seat to adjust). Net is, you don't know what money factors and such will be in 6 months from now.... I am waiting and to compare to the MB

Everyone here talks about the bugs on the first year model. But I didnt see much complaints on this forum regarding to the 2014 model......
