Dinan Stage 1 good deal?

Talked the SA in to 2000 installed+tax. Should I go for it?

Also considered MPPK but at the above price, the price gap doesn’t seem too bad.

I'm selling my Dinan Stage 1 for the 50i at a fraction of that.

Hi,i just went on Dinancar.com they have stage 1 on sale for $1750.You could install your self and save 2hr labor and tax? it would be better deal with BMW if you can get $2000 out the door.
by the way i have the combo dinan+mppk+mpe+k&n drop in filter.

My opinion, I would just stick with MPPK and stack it up with RaceChip and give me $1000 for 2 years warranty. (small prints disclaimers will follow ).

I might try to re-negotiate for closer to $2000 out the door but they were pretty adamant of $400 on the install so felt that getting them down to $2000 wasn't too bad.

How are you liking the combo? Any chance you could take a quick shot of what the Dinan stage 1 installed looks like? Is there anything that I can look at in the engine bay to verify it's installed lol?

Thanks for a helpful post. I see a lot of responses here that are condescending rather than helpful.

Is this for a 35i or 50i? If it's for the 35i I wouldn't go with the Dinan or Racechip, I'd probably do a JB4. Easy install and comes right off before dealer visit and no trace of any modifications

Not trying to be condescending or anything - just giving you input on what I think would be best.

Decided to go with the Dinan. I understand there are other options that provide more power etc..My goal of going with Dinan is to have the warranty coverage and not need to R&I the tuner for dealer visits. Peace of mind is worth it to me.

On that note, the Stage 1 kit was installed today! Heading to the dealership to pick it up in a few hours. I'm not getting my hopes up on any dramatic change but looking forward to seeing if there's any noticeable improvement.

Initial impression is good so far. I didn't get a chance to play with it much yet but from a stop it definitely pulls harder than it did stock. I wasn't expecting it to pull as hard as the 50i, but it doesn't feel terribly far behind either. I'm pleasantly surprised.

I'll be able to spend some time driving around with it this weekend. I'll probably use the Dinan app to bypass the tune and drive around and then activate it again and do the same. I will also be trying to find an AWD dyno and see if I can do some runs with and without the tune turned on.

congrats. I have my dinan stage one awaiting install too. Maybe I'll post my impressions. Waiting for the car to break in. I had the MPPK put on before I picked up the car and even that already feels better than the other ones i test drove.

Thanks! When are you going to get it installed? Would be great to get your impressions with the MPPK and Dinan combo. I'm thinking about doing the MPPK as well.

I'm only at 800 miles so a few hundred more. But I may just put it on since my wife will have less of a tendency to test it that I would since she drives it more lol.

Are you able to add on the MPPK if you bought the stage 1 that wasn't made for the MPPK or it doesn't matter?

I need to call Dinan and ask them about it. I think the dinan needs to be uninstalled, MPPK installed then Dinan installed again. Or since MPPK is just software, they may be able to just do it with the Dinan harness installed.

There are two type of Dinan,
One for add on to MPPK;
SKU: D440-1641X-ST1
DINANTRONICS Performance Tuner Stage 1 for BMW F15 X5 35i F16 X6 35i (MPPK)

and the other one without MPPK
SKU: D440-1639X-ST1

Make sure you get the right one if you plan on doing MPPK. Just as yewlock said there's two versions. I have the stage 1 for the MPPK just not sure how you would upgrade from the non MPPK version to the MPPK version

quick question did your harness come with rubber sleeves to protect from water. Not sure if it's truly needed but their instructions says to do it but I don't even have it in my kit. Don't want them to blame anything down the road on me because of no sleeves

Dealer installed it and I haven't had a chance to really take a deep look at the install. It looks clean though, no wires sticking out anywhere. Since dealer installed it, i'm expecting that if I have any issues due to the install, they'll handle it.

I'm glad I bought and installed the Stage 1 when I did. Looks like the price on Dinan's site has gone back up to full price. When I went in for the install, my SA forgot that we had agreed on $2000 installed and quoted me $2401! I had to remind him of our agreement.

That's not a bad price. I got mine for 1640 shipped. I'm just waiting for Dinan to get back to me to see if I need the rubber sleeves before I install. I guess Dinan customer service hasn't changed. I have called in the past and never had my calls returned. They're pretty good about returning facebook message so I guess that's okay.

Still absolutely loving it! Great power all the time and particularly noticeable from a stop due to the added torque. It definitely gets moving faster than a 5000lb vehicle should and puts a smile on my face every time I step on it.

It also pulls better at highway speeds where I felt it quickly ran out of breath when stock.

Overall improvement in driveability, especially in Comfort and Eco, where it felt like the engine was lugging a lot when stock. I'm in Eco most of the week as my commute is primarily in the city and traffic. No real opportunity to step on it.

Added benefit is that I have no qualms about mashing around with it as it was installed by the dealer and warranty isn't an issue. No need to remove it before service etc...

I also had the MPE installed just a few weeks ago and the combo of power and sound is perfect for my needs.

I'm looking for an AWD dyno shop around here to do some pulls. I should be able to get Stock vs Dinan numbers as you can use the app to bypass the tune.
