How to remove mirror covers

Hello Guys! I want to install CF mirror covers on my F15... Is there a way to remove the mirror covers easily?

Thanks!

Yes Opasha helped me with mine super easy

I used a slim trim removal starting from the inside of the X5 working myself from the top to the bottom. It is held in by clips around the edges so put a tiny amount of force and they pop out all around.

As Taran said, you just have to get a thin plastic tool that allows you to wedge in between the black gloss area (start at the top) and the painted mirror cap. Slow work your way around and it will eventually pop right off. It's not difficult at all.

opasha do you think a credit card would work? Or would it be too flimsy?

It might, but just be careful you don't damage your paint on the mirrors because of the credit card surface. A chipped card might work better since they are much more rigid/smooth.

walk over to your local paint or hardware store, home depot, lowe's etc... purchase a .50c plastic putty knife / spackle tool and do it right... very similar to a platic trim tool if you don't have access to one locally.

It should be easier if you remove the glass then push the locking clips out to remove the mirror covers.
Just be careful in taking the mirror off, as it will drop and break or scratch or hit the car if you didn't catch it. It has the autodim and heated wires connected to the mirror though, but don't rely on it.

Ben's idea is good, but not as easy as using the plastic tool. That is the easiest/safest method without scratching anything up. I recently did the Euro mirror install, which is why I'd go with the other way .

additional precautionary measure is to place a fender apron or long beach towel over the door or at least through the window down the door.

I was installing the CF mirror covers on my F30 last night. I assume the lay out is the same. If so, there is no way can move the caps without open the mirrors, because it has 3 clips holding the caps and it will break if trying too hard. Will upload some pictures once I finish up with my F15. Picking the car up next week.

Also, check on Youtube. type in remove BMW Mirror Caps. It has a video shows how to do it. Don't break your OEM mirror caps while you might still able to sell them.

Lol. I tried both method, removing the mirror glass gave me a cold sweat. Since the mirror doesn't have the plastic outer rim like the 2/3/4/5/6/7 series.
I could careless if it fall and break, I just scared of it to snap break on my hand. It would be a nasty cut.

The other method, I used my own hand with no tools. I just wear a rubber latex glove to help the grips. And start pulling from the outer top.

Are you able to remove the caps without open the mirrors?

Yes, by pulling off from the outter part of the mirror cover working it outward.

Hey fellas. I had no issue getting the old mirror caps off, however, I when I put the new CF caps on, the passenger side would not snap in tightly, how matter how hard I pushed it on it would easily come off with a pretty light touch (certainly not good enough for highway speeds). The outermost tab seemed like it would not grip and click in like the OEM one would. For those that have done this, did you use the AutoTecknic caps? They are definitely thicker than the OEM. Wondering if anyone else had issues like I have? I have asked them to send me a replacement passenger mirror cap, but I'm not confident it will work if the mold they're using isn't perfect (the next one they send may have the exact same issue). Any info/experience with the AutoTecknic CF caps is greatly appreciated.
