Wheel size increase - feedback
I´m considering going from my current std. 19"" to 20"" wheels (pics now and simulator below), essentially for aesthetic reasons.
Any feedback out there on perfomance and handling, i.e. ride confort, adherence, lost of torque/acceleration, noise, fuel economy etc. Thanks |

I just went up from stock 19's to 20's (see link below). Also, moved from a squared (same tire width all around) to staggered (10" width-front, 11" width-rear) recently. I have not seen a decrease in performance or have had any issues. As a matter of fact, the X5's stance (to me) is much better than before. On my previous SUV, I went from stock 20's to aftermarket 22's and also didn't notice much difference (besides rubbing when turning). Can't speak on fuel economy yet as I've nlyhad them on for a few days.
I can tell the "noise" level of the tire on smooth pavement has decreased, but I expect that to change as the tire ages. Overall, I am happy with the change and IMO, on this vehicle increase in size by one inch won't hurt at all, as a matter of fact many of our X5's leave the factory with OEM 20" wheels/tires. http://f15.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho...postcount=4738 Last edited by Dirty Cash; 08-26-2017 at 04:46 PM.. |

Learn on my mistakes and move to 21 or 22 - x5 looks much better with bigger rims. 20 inch is still too small - that's just half-way there man. Ride wise - 21 inch non RunFlat will ride similar or better than stock 19 inch RunFlat

Ride will be somewhat harsher if getting run flats in 20 or 21 (I have ridden on both, plus 19" run flats). 20+ will stick out past your wheel wells unless you also get fender flares. Looks will be much better.
What style 20" wheel is that? Not available in US. We visited Lisbon at the end of our cruise in May. Very nice city. |

Wheel/Tire size is all subjective to the owner of the vehicle. No matter what anyone else may say, get the wheel/tire size/combination you:
1. Are willing to pay for; 2. Can afford; 3. Looks right to you. |

One of my concerns is exactly the ride confort, specially as I plan to keep runflats. I dont really care myself, in fact I enjoy a more sporty ride. But I have my two kids and wife in the car as well, often for long trips... Great city Lisbon - where I live. Nicest capital in Europe to live in. |

Hello, I have 19" winters and 20" summer tires. The 20" are 551's. The roadnoise does increase a little bit as the tires age, but for me it was considerable as the tires cupped. So I just ordered new ones. All quiet again. The handling on highways and turns at higher speeds is better with the 20", but bear in mind you have to be very carefull around or near the curb. I ordered to new front rims after 94000kms. It is very issue to kiss the curb. Which is not any issue with the 19s. On the 20" I have DUNLOP SPORT MAXX GT RFT.
