Delivery with summer tires

How many have taken delivery and live in the Northeast and opted for 20" wheels with summer tires? My x5 50i should be here in the next 4-5 weeks. How did you get the X5 home? I plan to swap the tires immediately to Conti DWS06 tires. Appreciate some feed back.

If taking delivery during winter months purchase the tires through the dealership and have them mount and balance then install the wheels so they are ready for delivery. I do not know about your your dealership's policy but the ones around here will store your summer set for free. Another selling point is that with my LR dealer offers free tire insurance if you purchase through them and they are only $5 per tire more than TireRack. It covers punctures, patches, plugs etc. Your local dealer may offer similar products or plans.

I emailed the dealer asking if I can drop ship a set and have them install them at time of delivery.

Im running Continental DWS 06 on my 20" Msport rims year round in NYC. These tires works for me. A little slippery when there is fresh powder on the floor but once the roads are plowed, no problems.

I do here in South Dakota. Light snow and ice so far with them and I have been very impressed. They're not as good as a true snow tire as I've had in the past, but they're very good for what they are. I highly recommend them. Small example: I just took my wife's LR4 out with terra grapplers and my X5 with contis stopped much sooner and took off much better on ice/snow covered roads.

Thanks guys and they seem to get great reviews on the DWS06 and it baffles me why BMW ships the vehicle to northern climates with summer tires. I can understand on 21" wheels.

I did. Live in Long Island and picked up my 35i late 2016 with the 469 20in with Pirelli summers. I waited too late and got stuck in a light snow storm and it was a nightmare!! Immediately drove the car home and ordered DWS06's. I was driving around with them today and they perfomed great in the snow.

They ship it the way you ordered it. You optioned for those rims/tires so that's what you'll get!. By your logic, a person who orders an M6 in northern Maine for a January delivery should get snow tires?

I agree with what you are saying. But resolved the issue and the dealer will mount a set od Conti DSW06 for me when they are prep'ing the vehicle for delivery.

I just bought DWS06 tires for my 20" wheels after my first experience in the snow with the stock tires.

After 26 years in Vegas, I'd forgotten how much fun it can be to drive in the snow.

Mobile installer will receive the tires from the Tire Rack and then set up an appointment to do the install at my townhouse. Handy.

For everyone running the DWS06 tires, do you carry a can of "fix a flat" in the car or just an AAA card?

That is great someone will come to you. My dealer is going to install mine before delivery as I will have them drop shipped from Tirerack to the dealership.

I run the DWS06 on my X5M.

Recently spent nearly a week in Vermont in temperatures hovering around 0f and in frequent snow/slush conditions.

I've never considered (and I still wouldn't) the DWS06 as an alternative to a proper winter tire, but I was extremely impressed with its performance in these conditions.

Wow. That's a deal. My dealership never gave me that option. I pay $150 to store tires and they will balance them for another $75.

Whats wrong with driving your summer tires in the winter as long as there isn't snow or ice on the road? I've done it many times without any issues what so ever. Also DWS06 doesn't seem like the best tires for snow either.. in fact any wide all season tires will suck in the snow as they typically glide instead of dig into them. For snow get thinner snow tires otherwise the summers drive and grip fine even during freezing temps.

Summer tires below 40 degrees do not work well.
