It will work fine. If you are worried about taking delivery from your dealer to home, then as long as it isn't snowing and there isn't accumulation then your X5 should be fine.

I'm driving around with my dunlop RFT summers in 19 degree weather without any problems.

I did this too until it snowed and getting from my garage to the salted road was a white knuckle ride (retired racer, I steered with the right foot, but still no fun heading to work). It snowed shortly after getting the DSW06's mounted up and it was a world of difference getting to the main road.

The polymers for summer tires perform best in warmer temperatures. Same for winter tires; they perform best in colder temps.

Road noise on my commute w/the DSW06's is minimal. Ride comfort is much, much nicer (and I have the adaptable suspension set to comfort). It's a big difference being non-RFTs. I added a can of fix a flat and a tire plug kit to the back pocket in the hatch for peace of mind.

I could not agree more with your statement. Summer tires are not good for the cold weather below 40. It is like driving on ice with the compound that summer tires have.

I just took delivery yesterday but I decided last minute (Thursday) to have the dealer order and mount order a set of scorpion snow and ice. Upstate NY winters are rough and I didn't want to take any chances.

I think you guys are giving the conti DSW’s way too much credit. I got myself a set of Elcheapo snow 19’s from townfair tire and they’re fantastic! I’m pretty sure it’s the xDrive. As long as you’re runnng a decent tire with some tread left and you drive half decent ... you’ll be just fine!

I was shocked myself to learn that the 20” M sport option on these 50i’s ships with summer tires! Still made it home in 4 inches of snow!!

For snow get thinner snow tires otherwise the summers drive and grip fine even during freezing temps.
This the original DWS, but relevant design features carry over to the DWS06.

Maybe I misunderstood your original question. I thought you were concerned about driving your new car that you are taking delivery of, from your dealership to your home. You were then going to change out your tires some other time.

Despite what you have read or been told... can you explain to me why I am able to drive my summer tires in 10 degree temps in Jersey at mid to high speeds with excellent grip and zero issues? As long as there isn't snow or any ice on the roads you are perfectly fine to drive your new X5 home from the dealership.

Lots of people here are going by hearsay and what they've read online versus what they have actually experienced.

The compound of a summer tire gets hard and plastic like and can crack under extreme cold conditions. Based on that and from experience first hand the two do not mix well. I have a couple cars that I will not drive in the winter as it is not the best conditions.

Brave soul but I am not taking that chance. Even though the weather is getting warmer in NJ it is a peace of mind since this is my DD.

I took delivery of my X6 in November, I knew what was coming, I bought a full set of OEM rims and Pirelli Ice and Snows that were put on at delivery. No summers in the snow or cold.

if only the US had regulations on proper snow/ice/winter tires like other regions. the US claims to regulate to increase safety yet they turn a blind eye to many areas such as adequate winter tires or more current lighting laws which prohibit some of the newest and best equipment to be available in the US. at a minimum insurance companies should penalize individuals who get into accidents with summer tires on the vehicle during winter snow or icy conditions.

I could not agree more. I remember doing Euro Delivery on one of my cars and had to rent winter tires during the trip. Even without snow the cold weather hardens summer tires to almost being like slick plastic.

I guess my Dunlop SP SPORT MAXX GT DSST RFT are not summers then because they aren't slick plastic at all. They grip and hold my heavy SUV on sharp turns on the roads I travel at both high and low speeds at low temps.

Yes they won't perform 100% in cold weather but they aren't bad to where you would slide around like a hockey puck either... otherwise I would have been in numerous car accidents. Can you drive it from the dealership to your home with summer tires in winter? Yes you sure can provided that there is no snow/ ice/precipitation on the roads. And that is all I am saying.

I took delivery in 2/2015 and knowing it might snow opted for 19" and all-season. Im still beating my head against the wal for doing this.
Day of delivery, we have 45-50 degrees and no snow forecast.
I've read others swap tires upon delivery to a local shop, i advised for you to look into doing the swap and keep your 20 or 21" if you ordered such as upgading and looking is such a PIA.
