Cluster broken - How much to fix?

Found an F15 for a low price that the individual is selling due to a bad cluster. Obviously I would get a PPI on it however I can't drive without a cluster.

Wondering how much is it approx. to fix. I am assuming you cant just go to a junkyard and buy one there since due to odometer fraud it needs to be a new unit from BMW.

Approx how much are these to get?

No need to buy from dealer. Assume you have 6WA cluster as that's the most popular. There's a lot of 6WA, half digital clusters available second hand as people upgrade to 6WB, full digital. If you get one with lower mileage than your vehicle then it will adopt your mileage. Some that are available are offered as 'virginised' so no issue with mileage.

6WA virginised cluster available in the UK from £300.

They're super cheap on eBay, ~$300, just make sure like the other poster said to get it virginized so it's plug and play

My question is though what is wrong with the cluster? How can you verify current mileage? Why would the price be so low if only the cluster is bad. As other said they aren't that expensive to replace.
Just some questions that come to mind

Enter your vin at mdecoder.com and see if you have 6WB ( digital cluster or something like that)as an option otherwise it’s most likely regular 6wa cluster. Make sure you virginize the cluster you installing and code it to your car. Can check the mileage with ista on the firs page when it’s reading your car ( but it’s displayed in kilometers)

You can visually tell which cluster you have. There are 3 types:
  1. Basic (pics 1-3 below) - gauges are analog & have completely round anodized rings...the info in the gauges remains visible when powered down. The digital info is display on the far lower right
  2. 6WA (pics 4-7 below)- gauges have 4 anodized rings that are open on the bottom (when powered down)...then the rings are filled-in digitally (along the bottom when powered)...the digital part of the screen runs across the bottom of cluster from the left small gauge to the right small gauge
  3. 6WB (pics 8-12 below) - all digital display & gauges have anodized rings that are like mirrored "cC" facing each other (open on the side). Display goes totally blank when powered down.
