Do you have CarPlay? We've only had the car since Friday (2017 with CarPlay) and have had no issues with either an iPhone 7 or an iPhone 7 Plus. I don't know if CarPlay vs non-CarPlay makes a difference but I think it might.

I don't have an iPhone 7, but my iPhone 6 is having issues with playback. I can no longer use the toggle wheel on the steering wheel to change/advance songs and if I switch from radio to phone playback I have to physically press play on my phone. To get the music to start The only way I can change/advance songs in iPhone playback is with the iDrive knob or on the phone itself. I suspect these issues are due to the most recent iOS updates. Looks like I will finally need to load my music library on a thumb drive.

I should add that these issues occur when connected via Bluetooth and plugged in to the USB port.

To provide another point of reference, I have no problems with streaming music and making calls. I can control everything you mentioned from the steering wheel.

This is iP7 10.0.2, AT&T, using BT not USB

Just updated my phone to iOS 10 and music functions work in the X5 again. My issues must have been related to the last iOS 9 updates.

Mine would stop playing music via bluetooth. I read that there is an issue and BMW is working on a fix.

I removed the phone from the car and the car from the phone then re-paired them. So far so good.

BTW - My issue seems to be an IOS 10.0.2 issue as it didn't happen prior to the update. I have a 6S and a 7. Both had the same issue

I have iPhone 6S on 10.0.2. No issues with playing Apple Music via Bluetooth or via snap in adapter.

Vodafone UK.

I had the same problem, oddly enough a complete wipe and restore of the phone has fixed it completely.

iOS 10.1 was released today with some Bluetooth fixes. Might be worth a shot for those having issues with iOS 10 and iDrive.

I have CarPlay and iphone 6 and I think the interface is great, when it works. Already on a couple of occasions it did not start which is annoying when the kids want a song and car needs to move... I have yet to update to IOS 10 as I am actually afraid it would be worse.

What helped is to set "Forget this device" on the iphone and then start installing CarPlay again (but that takes time).

Once (I have this car only for a week now) during the process screen froze, then went to NO SIGNAL and it regenerated in 5 minutes.

Following up on my own post, I had intermittent Bluetooth issues with my iPhone 7 running iOS 10.0.x and iDrive 5. I am using CarPlay.

After upgrading to 10.1, I have (*knock on wood*) have had no issues with Bluetooth or CarPlay. CarPlay will now often load before I'm ready to back out of my parking space which is a marked improvement over when I first bought the car.

Yep, 10.1 has resolved my BT issue as well. The issue was irritating but short lived.

I didn't realize 10.2 was out until you just posted this. So, what's going on now? Back to locking up the screen once you start streaming or is there a new issue?

In my case, I cannot stream music from my phone. I do not see any category and more importantly the playlists.

Unlike others upthread, this problem did not show up until I 'upgraded' to iOS 10.2

I should report that my post about iOS 10.2 was in error. There is no problem with this update as I simply miscalculated the iDrive position.
