Tank increments on Dashboard different by Model?
So I have been seeing different Tank Volume increments on the dashboard, is this depending on the model 28i, 35i, 35d, 50i ect? or is that something that can be coded perhaps?
I feel like a 200, 400, 600, 800 or 200, 400, 600 would be a lot more beneficial as seen in other models than a 200, 400 or a 400 only. As you can see in the attachment I changed it from miles to km just to see what it would do though was shocked ... any input on this is much appreciated. |

That is indication how many miles (or km) you have left in the tank, based on gallons (or liters) left in the tank and current calculated gas mileage. The hash marks are going to be different based on model due to different ranges, due to different gas mileage of the different engines. And, it goes to follow, it changes with different units of measurement also.

I guess maybe you are asking why the hash marks don't go all the way to the top of the range in this case. I'm not sure about that. This must be a diesel? Maybe they figured it would be less useful and less accurate if the showed the whole range because when full, you are so far away from needing to worry about how much range you have left, it just wouldn't be as useful.

I get 800+ miles with one tank and for me the 400 should be at the half position and not 3/4... The logic behind this just seems dump haha |

But that's the same info - a digital range (in miles or km) and an analogue graphic showing remaining fuel, which on the older displays also shows an estimate of the remaining range by adding a scale which, for some reason, always seems to ignore the top 20% of the range.

My hard limit is 400 miles. For longer trips I can go 450-500 miles on a tank, so it would just show a full bar.

I'm guessing the scale is different between diesel and gas. I have the V8 and the scale only reads up to 400 miles (a little arrow next to the 400 shows you when the calculated range is actually higher than the scale).

I have the diesel and my gauge looks just like the 'miles' picture in PlayTookies post - top end of the analogue display would correspond to about 500 miles but I regularly get between 600 and 700 miles per tank - just an oddity I guess

On my gauge each tick is about 10km. If I am driving highway speeds prior to a fill up I will see the line at the top (far right) and it will indicate around 800km. As I drive and it moves down the gauge will update to its prediction.
In the city I get about 500km and it is past the middle portion. I find the number useful but the ticks add no value. |

Yeah, I was referring to stinkyxy's comment regarding the digital dash showing gallons left, which I don't think it does, but I don't have the digital dash, so I don't really know what he was referring to.

My sincere apologies for causing confusion. When saying "number of gas" I meant to say number of miles remaining. The digital gauge does not show fixed markers it just shows a single number representing the amount of miles remaining. This is the same info found on the BC button but it is permanently on the dash. Since it is permanently on the dash, there is not reason to have the visual show the portion of miles remaining.
Lastly, the only way I know how to get the amount of gallons/liters of gas in the tank is through the bmw connected app. Stupid thing though is the app needs to be on and the phone plugged into the car. I don't know why they can't send the info wirelessly. Again - my apologies for any confusion. |
