Brake Squeal
I just picked up the F85 last night and I noticed some break squeal, more of a low pitched squeal under moderate braking at slow speeds. Has anyone experienced, I did a search and didn't see any complaints. I did have serious brake squeal on my F10 M5 so was hoping it isn't an issue on the X5M. How many people bedded their brakes, and which process did you use?
Thanks

My one and only complaint with my beast. Brake sequel! 18K KMS and I've succumbed to the fact that it will never go away.
I'm offsetting it by just downshifting and enjoyed the wonder sounds of he engine revving down. There are multiple threads on this. |

When it starts to squeal, slam on the brakes real hard and it goes away. All M cars squeal, unless you have CCB.
Otherwise, look into Carbotech 1521. I know they make them for the M5, I assume the calipers are the same.

Mine squeal big time too. My '13 only did this when the wheels were dirty with brake dust. I'm glad it's not just me. Is it the bigger calipers?

Ok, so I guess they never addressed the issue from the F10M brakes then. I will probably get it out this weekend and attempt to bed them although I dont think it will help. As long as its "normal" Im fine with it, just hate taking it in for these type of things since they never fix them. This thing is scary fast though I can tell, from a stop it feels faster than my F10 and I am breaking it in still. It just feels like it wants to go (if that makes any sense).

It does feel like it just wants to go. It feels like you're constantly restraining a beast inside that's eager to get out and play! |

It drives me crazy. Much more so now that the weather is nice so my windows are open. The sound makes my ears bleed. I've tried adjusting how I apply the brakes to lessen that nails on blackboard noise.

I may still attempt to bed the brakes - but do you need to wait until the brakes are used for 4-500 miles prior to that? Tire Racks site says certain brakes should not be stomped on for 500 miles. Are these Brembo?

Its really a big problem.
A friend of mine, the carriage is withdrawn, because they could not repair the brakes. Now he gets a new car in a few month with the hope that the brakes no longer squeak. My brakes squeak now also from time to time. |

mine does too, last year I went to Monaco, believe me, basically all exotic cars does too, I think mclaren p1 was the worst, it had very annoying high pitched noise when braking

I don't think I got to it after 500 miles, so can't say. I would wait a bit, that's for sure to let the pads and rotors wear in a bit.

I had the same issue with my X6M F86. Went to two different dealerships before they finally gave me new rotors and pads. First dealership Took out the brake pads and clean them .did a test drive and told me there was no issue. A week later the brakes started squeaking again. And Then I decided to contact the dealership that I picked up my vehicle from. They had the vehicle for about three days. My service advisor calls me and tells me that they have no choice but to give me new rotors and new pads all around because the first time the issue was not corrected. i haven't had a squeak since

I have it a little. Comes and goes - worse when it is cold and wet.
It is however much less obvious than my F10 M5 with CCB. The CCB sounded horrible 80% of the time - But there was never any brake dust. Last edited by WCH; 04-22-2016 at 03:07 PM.. |
