Can't stand the dust of the BMW pads.

Good photo, love to see rear and also on car with wheel.

Enjoy the new brakes. I also agree, Msport should come with these brakes as standard. In Aus. the MPBP is $6,3000 + fitting....
I am using the F85 X5M front rotors with my MPBK. Rotors are the same exact size except these are two piece and cross drilled. I got it for the looks honestly.

I will give carbotec a try if the stock mpbk pads ends up dusting too much.

Do you have the parts numbers for carbotec and a source for them? The stock pads definitely do give off too must dust! I'm constantly cleaning mine.

I don't but I'm sure Ben could source them. I would guess it would be the same pads that fit the E70 X5M would be the ones we need since we have the same brakes.

The stock brakes were good but these gives me the feeling of confidence like I have plenty of brake left if needed.

All in all it's worth every penny.

I noticed an improvement over the stock 50i brakes, so beefing up the 35i setup is a no brainer (or get orphaned stock 50i brakes from others that have done the upgrade). The braking and bite also improved over time relative to the initial install...do a good bedding and let it all come together.

I will supply contact details and part numbers for Carbotec pads next week. At the holiday house for a long weekend. However they are a U.S.A product run by two brothers.

I can't rave about the Carbotec pads enough. I have had them on my last 3 BMWs, I put them on a delivery. If you hate brake dust get Carbotec pads, awesome.

In all seriousness, it would be an awesome pickup for anyone in a 35i that doesn't want the outlay of the M performance brakes. The difference is notable..for instance, the rear rotors are almost the size of the fronts on the 35i if I'm not mistaken, and they fit the E70 as well. Sold mine to my neighbor that has an E70 35i M-Sport, and he is pumped about them. Could powder coat the calipers too for an enhanced look.

M50d brakes - 223M rims

Guys - apologies in hijacking this thread but do you know if the 223M wheels will fit over the M50d brakes? I ask this as I have a set from my old E70 with winters on them - does anyone have this combo? Thanks!!

For those interested in coding your F15 for larger brakes...here is the instructions I followed. Huge thanks to Shawnsheridan for figuring out the code for the F15 being SBRE. For the F30 its SPBR.

This is how you code for Big brake kits for the car. This is REQUIRED or you will have mushy brakes after installing the brakes. Got this from another thread....

=> Connect
=> Expert Mode
=> Coding
=> Read FA
=> Save FA
=> Editors and viewers
=> FA-editor
=> Go to HO-Wort and right click on "Edit," then type SBRE under the HO-Wort file
=> Select the FA, "Calculate FA" to verify that no errors are found after adding the SBRE.
=> Write (write) FA to your car. No confirmation window will appear after saving the FA to the car
=> Expert Mode
=> Coding
=> Read (read) the FA. You are able to see SBRE be added to the HO-Wort folder on your car.
=> Read SVT, and locate the "DSC" (File Folder SVT / ECU / DSC), then right-click the "DSC" folder and select "Code". Consolidation should start immediately.
=> Allow the coding is over, and repeat step 1 to save a copy of the new FA.
=> Disconnect the car's computer.
The M-Performance brake is now activated and enjoy the authentic experience of M Performance brake.

All, contact details for the Carbotec brake pads.

'Concord NC 28027.
4031 Dearborn Place Nw, Concord, NC 28027.
PH- 877 899 5024 or local 704 481 8500.

I only have the part numbers for M50d brakes (F15,2014-2015), as follows.
(F-CT1443-1521, R-CT919-1521). Note the '1521' refers to the pad performance level, being their 'high performance street compound, low dust'. You can select between a few compounds.

These guys are excellent in that if they don't have a set available for a particular brake set up/car, all you have to do is send them a set of original pads and they will remove the 'BMW' pad compound and install their pad compound to the original backing plate. Check out their web site, you can search you vehicle, however you may have to contact them for details on the BMW MPBP and supply you vin #.

Trust me if you hate brake dust, get a set of these and you will never look back.
Enjoy.

^^ Thanks for the tip on those. I've been running Akebono Euros on the rear of my A4, front is Pagid - OEM Porsche with Cayenne S 6-pots. The Akebonos have been great, VERY low dust. I got tired of having to wash my wheels every few days.

My god you are right. The MPBK gives off sooooo much more brake dust. After one drive and my wheels are dark grey/black! The amount of dust I get in one day now is what i use to get in a week worth of driving with the stock pads.

Yep, get the carbo Tec pads. Almost no more dust and no performance loss at all. Even more important as you have beautful wheels. As I said, I have not run original BMW pads for over 10 years now.

Where can I get those carbo Tec pads and are they available for the MPBK? All that brake dust is driving me nuts!!! I have the new rotors but I think I'll wait to get them installed until I get those pads.

I can't find a single aftermarket pad for an x5 50i. I sent an email to carbotec.
The only thing worse than BMW pads are my wife's audi pads...

Carbotech should have it for your car with the MPB since they have a kit for the E70 X5M which is the same brakes as ours. You'll want the 1521 pads from carbotech

Alan I

Such a great writeup - and to all of you, giving real non bs recommendations/experience you all should give yourself a pat on the back for sharing it with us

I just want to know one thing - if the MPBK for say a 50i is a Non-cross drilled (and now naturally you have this) did you have to do a swap of somesort ?? Or you have a choice to go cross drilled ??.... Was it a cost difference ??

Just want to know what was involved in the jump of getting MPBK with "cross drilled rotors"?

Thanks again mate

In order for you to have cross drilled rotors with the MPBK you would need to buy F85 X5M rotors which goes for about $315 per rotor.

I ended up selling the rotors that came with the MPBK for $400 so at the end it really only costed me $230 to upgrade to the two piece X5M cross drilled rotors. Realistically I could have sold the MPBK rotors for even more than $400 to the E70X5M guys because they sell for about $600 online too.
