What are the rules around modding your X5?

I saw this today and thought "Hey this is a topic that comes up several times here in the forum under various sections, I need to share this". This is really only the first part but its a start....Ill update this post when the second part comes out.

Nothing new here, except for the piece on DMCA...so I guess to abide by the law, no more coding, tuning, etc...

I would think that other than cosmetic mods, anything that changes original engine, suspension or mechanical specs and parts put you at risk of having a voided warranty unless installed by an authorized BMW dealer. Would the dealer install wheel spacers?

@artem123 , coding doesn't void the warranty since you don't change their firmware. You just change the option from on to off.
It is like fine tuning your computer properties to your liking.

That would depends on how far and stupid the mods is.
Some will just trust some kids that just know how to buy and sell parts in the basement for $5 profit or trust their friend/neighbor that know how to do oil change by watching youtube to work on the car. Those will kill the warranty.
Simple motto of the back in the old school modding day, "no pain - no gain".
There no such thing as modding the car across the line and asking the manufacturer to fork out when it goes south.
Some mods are for daily drive, some are for track use.

It's legal now, but car companies are trying to make it illegal
