Active Steering
I have not yet decided if it's worth taking the active steering. I read your thoughts, almost all negative, on the adoption of electric power steering compared to the old hydraulic on E70 model. I drove my E70 for 4 years without Active Steering, and, in the parking lot and at low speeds, Active Steering, would have been useful. Do you think the new electric steering is sufficient in terms of maneuverability and lightness or Active steering is necessary? Has anyone had the opportunity to personally experience both configurations on the F15 model?
Thanks, Roberto |

I can tell you I have the option and love it. Much more direct and less turning of the wheel at lower speed.
Also don't forget it enhances safety besides less effort. If the vehicle is threatened with instability, such as by oversteering or braking on a changeable surface, DSC identifies the problem and can use Active Steering to help overcome it. For example, in order to reduce unsafe yaw, Active Steering can increase the angle of steering wheels faster than even the most expert driver. |

With Msport it is great, test drove with professional suspension (no M sport) and it was not as good as with Msport especially at speed 60-80km. You are also much quicker with parking. Great option well done, had replacement without AS once (I appreciate it even more since).

Thanks 1230vani, ease of parking was one of the considerations, glad to hear that pairs well with the M package

Definitely get it, I did not go for AS and now I regret it. Standard steering is very dull, slow geared, it is on the heavy side and the car is not very maneuverable at all. AS will help remedy some of that.

Thanks Gorun, I'm back to my original opinion, that in fact I changed partially because of the forum. Now the same forum suggests to me otherwise.

I had it in both my 545 and 550 and would never get it again. Personally I don't feel it helps. Yes in a parking lot but in std driving. I actually did not like it and there were times when you could feel the ratio change in a turn if taken a certain way which was unsettling.
I can say this, AS does add to the steering complexity and with that comes repairs and replacement. The AS failed in my 545 and they had to replace every single component down to the steering column. I also had to deal with AS errors in both cars.
