2014 X5 problems
I am awaiting delivery of our 3rd X5 in late June. Our 2011 has been great. Just one recall. Otherwise no issues. After reading this and another blog, I would like to know if the problems brought up ( squeaks, rattles, other noises, fit and finish, vibration at 60 mph, etc. ) are widespread or isolated. Lemon has been raised on one of the threads. Some new buyers have been extremely disappointed.
Thanks for your input. Scott |

Beechflyr: some first year models have some problems witch are usually fixed next year, but you need too remember that there is much larger group of X5 owners here are posting only unlucky owners or BMW fans who have problems or are very happy with their new X5

i am very happy and am having no problems. I do notice the noise at high speeds on drivers side. BUT only with no music on. It has not been a big deal. This is my 3rd BMW and my expectations are that it will be trouble free just like the rest of them. And each of my previous BMW's were first year models FWIW.

Feb14 production - no issues apart from a slight rattle coming from the tailgate somewhere. Will bring it up when it goes in for a service, not bad enough to warrant a trip.
This is my third BMW and the only other problem I've ever had is a rattle from the indicator stalk on an E61. Never anything mechanical. |

April 2014 production, only had two issues to date (1,600 kms on the odo)...
1) Faulty EGR sensor, came on within 1 km of the dealership following delivery 2) rear hatch rattle (fixed myself) All in all, I am VERY happy with the quality on this vehicle. The fit and finish (both inside and out), the drivability, fuel economy, and the looks. I love the front end especially...the black surround grills really give it an aggressive look. No buyer's remorse here.

April production... A bit of wind noise on the drivers side. Still only 1100 km on the clock though, but the car is just great! No rattles, squeaking ot other noises so far.

Besides the vibration issue we have experienced, at 1015 miles, I noticed yesterday the drivers seat "extension" has it's covering falling loose.

sunroof won't open (going in tomorrow) and I too think I have a rattle in the trunk somewhere. Taking everything out of the car tonight before I bring it in to see if the 'rattle' is actually just some of our crap back there somewhere. Will bring that up too if it remains when the car is empty of our kids' toys and other clutter..

It turned out to be the lower section / panel of the liftgate...nothing a little felt tape can't fix!

Edit: rattle fixed, they took apart all sorts of the plastic pieces in the back, added some felt tape, and made sure everything was tight. Also re-sealed and "recoded" the sunroof just to make sure it didn't start acting up again. I think the recoding must just mean bringing the whole car up to latest software version, as I now get psi readings for the TPMS, previously only got the green or yellow lights. |
