Instrument display differences

So how come on some '15 F15s you can see the numbers on the speedometer and tach when the car is off, and on others it's completely blank? I saw both examples at dealer today.

Realllly?!? That sounds like 6WA vs 6WB (full digital) instrument clusters. You've seen Opasha's and other threads on the retrofit, coding dependencies, etc., right?
I didn't think it was making it to US spec'd F15s. At least not anytime soon.
Was one car a recent arrival vs one that'd been sitting on the lot?

The only difference I saw was that the three cars I saw with the blanked out dial were x line, and the others were no line.

Ah, that is probably it. Having only seen my M-Sport, I ass-umed you saw 6WB. Weird that BMW would have yet another SKU/PN between trim lines for such small differences.
Did both have chrome rings for the speedo and tach, just that one had printed numbers?

I think the difference is not the 'line' of the vehicle, but rather whether the vehicle has the optional Driver Assistance package. My X5 does, and has what I'd call the 'semi-digital' display (where the bottom of the guages are digital, and all of the dash display shuts off when the car is off). I drove a loaner X5 a week or so ago, and it had the regular, non-digital dash. It also didn't have the Driver Assistance Pkg, which includes the HUD.

Interesting... So if the car has HUD then it should have this semi digital display?

I have the drivers assistance package and drivers assistance plus package and my dash is completely dark with just the needles and edge borders.
Also with extended digital display.

Quattro - See this thread for further info. http://f15.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho...igital+display

thanks for the post reference... that post looks like an all out war!! Kzang, which gauge do you have? And do you think that which gauge you get depends on HUD?

I got the extended gauge but I am not 100% sure if it depends on Driver Assistance Package or Plus. When you go to BMW website and build your own X5 you can see once you click on the Driver Assistance Package you see the red vertical digital lines that extend all the way down which indicates the extended gauge.

Did you pick up your ride yet?

DA and DA Plus share the same cluster. I only have DA, but in the sunlight you can see the area where lane departure notification lines would light up.
