The SA didn't give me a date but suggested that I'll have it for the weekend. He said that if they are not able to correct the tire issue through re-balancing they will have to contact BMW to for new tires. If they manage to get it fixed I'll let you know otherwise we may have to wait for new tires to be put on before I can confirm if it truly worked. I'll post an update as soon as I can.

quick update. No clue if the car is fixed. They've had the car for 2 weeks and have not even managed to replace a punctured tire during that time. Apparently i've paid $80k+ just to have my car sit there at the shop. To get a replacement strut in which my car also needs will take another 5-6 weeks!

Unfortunately, the service centre has turned a BMW fan into a BMW regret. If I knew what my ownership experience would look like ahead of time I would not buy a BMW. No point in ranting any further.

Time to get BMWUSA(BMW Canada?) involved, at least with an appropriate loaner! I don't know what your lemon laws are up there, but in the states if the vehicle has been in the shop 3 times for the same issue for more than 30 days you have a legitimate complaint. Especially if the dealer has been a douche about taking care of you!

I've cooled off a bit after my conversation with the SA on Friday so here are some more details. Apparently they've ordered 2 new tires for the front which have been identified as causing the vibrations. When they tried to road force balance them on Friday one would not balance within acceptable range so they had to order another one and try to balance it (still waiting for it). The curious thing is that they've already road force balanced all of my wheels 4 weeks ago which apparently were out of range so i'm not sure how now all of the sudden the front tires need to be replaced because they are not getting balanced properly.

I'm not sure about you guys but I seem to get a lot of these inconsistent answers from my SA. Feels like i'm being fed BS.

Most of my frustration stems from the fact that they've had the car for 2 weeks and only started trying to put the new tires on on Friday at 3pm. Even the punctured tire that I brought in to have replaced 2 weeks ago was not yet fixed when I spoke to the SA on Friday at 4pm.

I am also being told that I can continue driving with the damaged strut until the new one arrives in the 2nd half of August. I'm not too happy about that either.

I get the sense that most of the time my car just sits there.

Just drove the car home and the vibrations are gone! Turns out it was the tires. My dealer claims that they were able to move my wheels onto another car and transfer the vibrations to that car during testing. I will be keeping an eye on it but for now it's fixed. Hope this helps some of you, good luck!

During the 2 weeks they had the car they put on ~183km, which seems like a lot, what do you guys think?

Sounds like they did a lot of "road testing", but I guess that's to be expected

Funny, I have the same Pirelli RF tires that you did, and mine are OK....so far!!

Glad things worked out for you.

Glad to hear it. They said mine is fixed to, picking up tomorrow. What tires did they put on yours? They gave me Bridgestone run flats but I haven't seen them yet so I am hoping the sizes are still staggered like they were 315 rear and 275 up front.

I'm still on the same Pirelli tires just new ones that apparently don't have the manufacturing defect. Because of all the tire and wheel swapping they did when diagnosing the problem they scratched the rims a bit. Few nicks here an there on the face and some more serious scratches on the inside. I brought it to the attention of the SA right on the spot and he took some pictures. Given what I have just been through, I'm dreading having to deal with the rims now.

I am also a little bothered by the nearly 200km they put on the car. That's how much I drive in one week to and from work.

Good luck tomorrow and let us know how it goes.

Was doing some research on these Bridgestone RFT before I pick up the X5 tomorrow. Reviews aren't that great on the Bridgestone and the price reflects even on bmwusa.com . So I paid for the Pirelli p-zero's not sure if it would be right to downgrade to the bridgestone's. Any thoughts?

I think I have the worst luck. Got the car and vibration is fixed but after a few hours I noticed that there is also a nasty scrape on the rear left rim. I let them know and we shall see. Doubt they will do anything since I didn't catch it while I was there. Also not a big fan of the tires, very noisy. I'm going to get the all season continentals instead.

what were your original tires? I thought you were on Pirellis

Just got an email from my dealer acting somewhat surprised that the rims got scratched and informing me that they will have to send my rims away to get them fixed which will take 3-4 days. Will deal with that when I go get my strut replaced in a month.

Can you show a pic of your rim that's scratched?

here are the pics that the SA took, not the best quality but sufficient for dealer to assess the damage. There are other scratches as well but don't have pics of them.

The email stated that the rims will have the "face machined and the inner face repaired". I'm curious if the machining will restore the face to the factory finish because when you look at them closely the rim has tiny little ridges on the face that I imagine will be hard to replicate. I will have to ask a lot of questions about this process before I drop off the car.

You should ask questions. I had some wheels done before when my wife had some curb scuffing and they did a very good job. They were sent out (mobile workshop). It did restore them to an like new condition. This being some surface marks, I'm sure that they will get this looking like new. Except nothing else!
