Some of us tried including me. My advise is to take that piece out and take your time painting it. It's small thankfully so you can do it at home/garage etc. I did it in bathroom on garbage plastic bags lol.
1. You need to sand surface with some 180 or 400 grit gently to prep material for adhesion. 2. Optional step - you can use any grey color primer/filler in a spray can - it will make surface and finish smoother and more professional (I skipped this step just because my local auto store was closed when I did painting and I forgot to buy it) 3. Apply 3 coats of black spray can paint Duplicolor or better brands (up to you). I used universal black spray can. It's more on the glossy side, but you can opt for matte black. It's up to you, but I think glossy looks better. As always start with first layer very light. 2nd layer a thin coat. And finally 3rd layer more substantial, but not to overspray to avoid leaky paint drying. You can do more layers if you want. 6-10 inches away in a steady motion, never stop in the middle and avoid overspray 4. Apply 2-3 layers of clear coat - it will help protect paint and will make finish look good I usually waited about 10-15 minutes between coats - was enough with my vent working in the bathroom, but it's better to do in a garage. Overall took me half day including taking piece out and installing back. Not hard, but tedious You only need some plastic thin tool to pry that piece out and 3 cans of primer, paint and clear coat and a sand paper - probably around $40 total at your local Autozone store Last edited by DuSh; 01-06-2018 at 07:45 PM.. |

I plastidipped mine in less than a hour for the entire process. They look like the first day I dipped them.

Their paint is right on spot and their clear coat is best I've used so far. This is their $63 all-in-one paint kit for Space Grey BMW (A52): https://scratchwizard.net/spray-pain...340&color=8975 Also, check their Video section on website - easy short videos of how to best use their products - like this one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_c...&v=pr37LFZZTGU P.S. However, if you need to paint fender - maybe you'll need a bigger amount paint and maybe it's better to shop elsewhere Last edited by DuSh; 01-10-2018 at 10:34 PM.. |

If your fender flares are black plastic finish (not primed for paint ones) then key will be to take your time and prep surface with fine grit sandpaper (probably 400-600) before applying primer |

I plastidipped mine a while ago. First I tried it with the trim on the car, but didn't get good results, and eventually popped them out and finished it well. Has held up quite well. Did not prime.

Is anyone in the right mind is following this duct-tape-type-repair-guide?!
PS.. back in my youth i used to work in a garage which painted cars. I would have my peripheral parts cut off for such butchery.

IMHO 2 coats is pushing it. It's going to hold, but not ideal. Ideally would be best if you order extra can. Fender flares are going to take some abuse from road debris and weather - it's better to have them done properly
