Well I think Mercedes did this with their E-Class a few years ago. Skipped the mid-cycle refresh and went straight to a new model. I think it was due to everyone complaining that it was hideous and it was affecting sales.

I don't think the F15 sales are down, so I see these as just rumors.

Well. I'm thinking there's another angel here.

If I remember correctly the chassi in F15 basically is the same as E70. The space in the car is the same, the third row is equally bad. Is the current X5 something in between a LCI and a brand new model?

Wasn't the X7 delayed which could have forced BMW to keep the chassi from E70 longer than planned which makes a short cycle for F15 logical. The X5 really could benefit from a roomier interior which I think wasn't possible with the old chassi.

Yeah. All of this really affects my initial question. Should I keep the car or should I replace it?

just speculating but it may not be because of sales but because other mfg are releasing new vehicles this year and are more current and have newer/better tech. so it could be an attempt to jump ahead of the pack and to that it would cost too much for an LCI but if they bundle it into a new model it is more easily digested from the consumer perspective.

I considered purchase of a new one for a while. Love the car but I really missed comfort seats (which I had in the previous car) and a sunroof. Now I (finally) made a decision to get the car and read this news (which is actually a rumor). Problem is that to get official info it is almost impossible, can't even get official stuff for the August 2016 production (I did get something out of the dealer about NEW MENUs in the idrive for August 2016 production but news as big as this may be difficult).

Well look at it this way.. unless you are leasing every 3 years.. no matter if you get the current X5 now or in a few years, you will face the same dilemma over an over. There is no guarantee that the G series will be better than the F series.

These are all just rumors, you never know what's going to happen, it could change due to project schedule, market, competition or the economy. Who knows.

In the article it says coming years, mid-term, that's a general range. Also said BMW will also have a new x-series lineup, hmmm. I thought X6 just got updated.

Updated lineup could be like model trim name change, configuration changes to be aligned with the new X7.

The x lineup for sure will be realigned/updated due to the x7 but how, no one knows.

I doubt they will tell you something for you hold off on your purchase. I don't think even BMW themselves know 100% yet.

I would trade in after the official announcement is made, of course u will probably loose some money. If you trade in now, are you going to get a new F15? Then you will worry about if the new model is coming out. If you trade in 3 years later, you will be worried about when the LCI will be coming.

This is my exact thought... earlier this year Bimmerfest rumored the new X7 being spied http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/sho...2&highlight=x7

Then Bimmerpost posted the spy shots of the same exact photos from the above links and claimed it were the next Gen X5.

Wtf? Thanks BMW for a massive depreciation if no LCI. Even more happy I got rid of my BMWs. XC90 and Q7 have span of like 10 years and keep their value well...I am sorry, but I have hard time believing this is true, even BMW would not screw their customers in this way.

BMW USA X5 sales have being down YtY for the last 3 months, even with heavy incentives in Q1.

The X7 isn?t expected to begin rolling out of BMW?s Spartanburg, South Carolina, factory until 2018. Marc Werner, BMW of Australia?s managing director, told website Motoring that the next X5 will arrive before the X7, which seems to indicate that it will go on sale next year.

When I look at these pictures I start to believe the rumors. This is definitely a X5 and it is way more than an LCI.

I will be at the factory Wednesday and I will look for test mules. Generally, they stop factory tours as they start making prototypes, and a tour is in the plan for Wednesday.

I think one "news" report is being quoted over and over and the words "may" or "could be" is being swapped with "will".

I agree, looks very much like an X5 IMO. I would not be too happy after buying a 2016 MY to find out 2017 is totally new lol I'm very surprised they would do that so soon after the new one came out not that long ago

If the X5 wasn't selling I would say, MAYBE they will skip LCI. But no way considering this X5 did quite well.

Yes. The SUV segment is so hotly contested right now. Its one of the few segments that is showing significant growth, be it with smaller compact suvs.

I'm sure with the launch of the new Q7 and JLR Suv, its got Munich scratching their heads as to the best way to compete.
