And just done the third fix for wheel bearings, dealer installed "carriers", no clicking for 500km so far.
That is what Im doing with the pads, my BMW shop does do it actually. Going in next week - im just assuming thats temporary though until the pads wear down so was looking for a permanent fix.

I just called BMWNA asking them if the correct bearings were assembled on the new '17, the person that I talked to knows of the issue, but could not tell me if the fix was implemented on the '17. Sadly, we will have to wait until the new '17 owners start to chime in. I would like to order now, but I'm hesitant in ordering, I do not want to be spending all of my weekends at the dealership finding out if the repair will fix the problem or not. It goes to a point where you do not enjoy your vehicle anymore. Especially something that expensive. I talked to a friend of mine that is a tech at my dealership. He said that he has not seen any of the X5M come in for the bearing issue. Just regular schedule maintenance. But he knows of the SIB# and seen the parts, just never used one on any of the X out there. What would you do, if you were about to order?

I was dead set on the X5M for my wife, maybe to a fault? I just got tunnel vision and kind of stopped researching for known issues. I did know of the brake issue having come from the F10M5, but its completely different because you cant stop it at all. Its constant. Knowing what I know now, I do regret getting it so quickly. The brakes drive me absolutely nuts, and now I also have the bearings which compounds the issue.

I know many here say squeaky brakes are the norm, but my personality isn't one which allows me to take that outlook on life. I actually refuse to drive it now (obviously kind of extreme) and am praying BMW chamfers my pad correctly and does the correct SIB for the bearings rather than just the wheel spacer.

If you are OCD like me and goes crazy at the quietest of sounds, I'd wait - these issues seem to arise pretty quickly and you will soon hav '17 owners chime in. On the other hand, you have a tech at the dealership that is a friend and can feel comfortable bringing it in and having issues addressed on the first try. I just dont hav the time to bring it in for a trial and error process over and over again. 31 months til I turn it in.

Just depends how much it would bother you and if you are in situations where it is an issue. I have both the squeal, and the clicks- it doesn't bother me at all until I am in parking garages where I can hear both amplified x 100 times. If I had clients to drive around or someone to impress, then maybe it would seriously bother me.

I laugh when my wife sits and says "this is ridiculous for a 100k car" - she isn't the one driving it, and that's where the fun is.

I agree with you totally. I am OCD, unfortunately. Even though I have a friend that works at the dealership, I still do not feel like spending all of my time with trial and error basis. I rather wait and know that the issue was implemented on the '17 and then order. I cannot just ordered it and never enjoy it. It will drive me nuts, because I know something is wrong. And since I am mechanically incline, I would then start to take things apart and figure it out myself, thus voiding warranty.

The problem is it seems there are multiple SIBs out there for this type of issue, none specifically for the F85. I'm lumping mine in with my 1200, so hoping its just one trip to the dealership. Fingers crossed - hoping it works so I can let people here know what was done.

Well, it's not like you have a lot of choices out there.

MB GLE63S and the Cayenne GTS/Turbo are due for changes.

I just went to test drive the GTS for my folks, and it is a great car- but at 110k, it is definitely subpar performance compared to the X5M numbers wise. P-cars do drive amazing, really a wonderful driver's car even if it is not as fast.

rear seating is a bit smaller and the trunk is way smaller on the p car. I would definitely recommend a drive to check it out if you're going to keep waiting on the x5m. Knowing bmw, there will be the usual denial before a long pause and a fix and tsb, then eventually extended warranty on the part only.

Seems like they are strictly looking to band aid the issue for now instead of acknowledging it. Based on that, there will be a while before we get to a real fix.

I like the P SUV, but like you said, small in the rear seats. I like that the X5M is big, yet fast and awesome on the turns. The whole package. I may have to just bite the bullet and be done with it. Like you said, I would be waiting for ever and then they will finally release the G X5M.

I dont imitate it, bc it just makes me angrier. I usually turn the music up when she parks.

I looked at the GTS... really cool looking car, drives well but it's SLOOOOOOOOOW. For that kind of money I wanted something faster than the range rover sport or comparable to the x5M.

The real competitor in my mind is the Turbo or Turbo S and it is absurdly expensive....

Stuck between rock and hard place. With the wheel bearing "fix" holding right now, I love my M again but if it starts clicking, I am going to go nuts.

Well my car has been in the shop now for fix number three for 4 days now. Day number one - "we can't replicate the problem, can u come in again tomorrow and show it to us?" My answer "hell no! Just listen to it." Day 2 "well we hear it now we just have to figure out what it is." Day 3 "well it turns out there's a bulletin on wheel bearings for this vehicle so we will order them and call u when done."

It's day 4 now. I told them prior to fix 1, wheel bearings, known issue. Again prior to fix 2, and then fix 3. Mind boggling. I'm super curious if it will resemble Vince's car when returned to me. And I've contacted BMW NA. I may be opening up a colossal case of whoop ass. God help them if anything is dinged up.

Anyone had fix 3, bearing replacement fail yet?

Mine's been at the shop for 4 days now. Haven't heard anything from my SA so I decided to call in yesterday. She said the head foreman only heard from one wheel, when we both heard it from both of the front wheels when I dropped it off.
She told me she would call me first thing in the morning.
No call - called about 10 mins ago - said my SA is off today. Lol.

I will be going to get my car in an hour or two. Not going to let it sit for the weekend.

Help. On my 2016 I just hit 4,800 miles. This after just getting back from a 2,900 mile road trip through Utah. So I did not have any bearing noise before but just today heard what sounded like crinkling of cellophane paper or something when tight turning in a parking garage. Is this the bearling clicking that I am hearing. Wasn't there before my trip as I park in my work parking garage daily and have the window down.

the clicking noise is pretty obvious, especially in a parking garage. It's a "click click click" that changes with speed, and is most obvious generally when the wheel is turned full left or right. If you hear it then, then you'll know what it is.

well i picked mine up today after five days in the shop, and post fix number three. they did both front wheel bearings, but also replaced both front brake discs as well as pads, and added a new friction washer. Frankly, I'm not sure how this can be a fix unless the native bearing set was faulty, but if the replacement is the same item then it would likely just be a matter of time.

I'm going to keep my ears open. Pretty stoked about the new brakes. At least I don't have any nasty squeal for a little while since the pads are new. Digging that.
