I have a 15 while 42 has a 14 and they clearly made adjustments to get the increased 0-60 time. I am almost at 10k miles without issue in the South.

If you have a modely year 15, I would strongly recommend 03.
I know. It's been a couple months just curious before I pull the trigger, are you still running fine set on 3? Also how long has it been?

Everyone is talking about the HP increase. What about the MPG increase. Has anyone noticed an increase on their fuel mileage?

VW Diesel Fiasco...

Why would a manufacturer possibly do that? In today's world of high horsepower car/SUV wars, what could possibly be the motivation to start low and add HP in 10k miles/km's? Mechanically speaking, nothing changes at 10k. Within 1k miles, the bearings and rings are settled, but that might give you 5 hp from reduced friction - maximum.

As for software, I assure you there is nothing that happens at some point in the future to give more HP. You could get your ECU flashed and a new/better tune could be installed, and that would make a difference.

Modern diesels are tuned to the max from day one. I have a 6.0L power stroke putting out close to 400hp and 750 lb ft of torque. That's huge and known to be tuned near 100% of it's potential from the factory. That's why so many fail - too many people push them over the limit with tunes and/or overheating. New 6.7L Powerstrokes are producing over 450 hp and over 850 lb ft of torque. In a pick up truck!

On the other hand, the US BMW diesel is de-tuned for our EPA emission laws and poor fuel quality. That's why I chipped it.
Any comments on how these tunes affect emissions as that is such a hot topic in recent days? I know this crowd probably doesn't put green at the top of the list or we would be driving Prius's but I hadn't seen any comments or data regarding emissions on these threads. Maybe some have experience with annual emissions testing for registration with/without chips installed?

I had a smog check on my 2008 chevy silverado about a year ago. It was the first smog check since new. It was all done via the OBD II port. The tech told me that tail pipe testing is no longer required on vehicles model year 2000 and later. The smog check took about ten minutes. This was in California. So, as long as the chip is not throwing CEL, it should be fine.

That is a hard question to answer.
Too many variable to be able to have your car to show the advertised up to 5 MPG increase (you need to change the dial to an economy setting).
Unless if you can constantly run your car for about 1/4 tank on the same condition, it would be a very hard question to answer.

Edit: correction on the advertised MPG increase.

Nice to hear, it sounds like the 15's are able to handle modding a little better than the 14s. On a side note how did you go about blacking out the trim around the window?

Hi All,

I just tried racechip ultimate on my 35D, the throttle response improvement can be felt right away. The increase in performance is not dramatic, but definitely can be felt. I would say it improves the drivability in comfort mode the most. Before it felt sluggish in comfort mode.
However I do find the engine sounding not as smooth as stock. The diesel clatter is much more pronounced. I'm at default E0 setting. Has anyone found a setting that gives performance gain but still close to factory smoothness? That may be too much to ask, but just thought I'd check. I have not tried other settings yet.

Guys, I'm currently considering buying RC Ultimate for my 40d. Keeping in mind that the engine construction is nearly identical to 30d/35d I'm wondering if it would be safe to boots the hp and torque by approx. 15% as that would be close to 50d spec (which has better engine components). I don't want to invest in a Dinan program because I would still like to disconnect the chip before visiting the dealer of undergoing state technical control so the piggy back solution seems just what I'm looking for. Has anyone had any experience with tuning 40d and recommend the safe settings so that my engine wouldn't explode?

There is setting for fuel savings. But don't expect too much out of the fuel saving, it is advertised at 5%.
And most of the users ended up forgetting the fuel savings since it gives you much more enjoyment of driving.
If you are looking into gas savings, you don't need a RaceChip, there are plenty of tricks to gain mpg. Such as; higher tire pressure, reduce the car weight, run on eco mode all the time, etc.

I do notice a 1 -2 MPG improvement with the racechip ultimate, at least in E0 factory setting. Also different brand of fuel feels different. Chevron #2 feels a bit more powerful compared to Shell, although a bit louder.
