The e46 gt3 it wasn't, the e92 m3 gt3 it wasn't, the z4gt3 it wasn't and the m6 it wasn't too...

I think the best Setup from the BMW Portfolio is a i8 combinated with the legendary v10 engine and an hybrid System like KERS. That would be revolutionary.

Why can not BMW finally construct a real racecar like a Audi r8 lms?
don't matter, these sports series mandate a lot of specs and then adds balance-of-performance adjustments to each type of car to keep it close. A KERS system would be illegal in IMSA and WEC GT classes (where the M6 GTLM and GT3/GTD races), and a V10 will force the team to use a certain intake restrictor to match the power of various engine configurations and sizes in its class. That's why in GTLM you have 4.4t racing against a 3.9t vs a 5.5L vs 3.5t, H6, etc etc etc.

Development and specs on GTD and GT3 cars are further clamped down.

Interestingly, if you want to see the high tech race cars, the LMP1 category in WEC is where it's at. Most use hybrid drivetrains, though I am sad with the new LMP1 change that came about 2 years ago, b/c gone are the days of these monsters:

Uh, you didn't watch the race did you? A Ford GT took out a Ferrari and a Corvette and a Porsche 911. And I think another Ford GT. The M6s were lucky that they weren't running with the pack. This was a matter of attrition not a matter of doing what it's supposed to do.
Well it did what it was supposed to do by taking pole and jump from 3rd to 2nd on the start to avoid the pile up...

I myself have been critical of the team and the car in the past, but credit where it is due, avoiding the pile up wasn't luck, it was the result of strong qualifying and a good start.

There might have been more cars running, but they weren't in contention, which was my point.

Passing it would have taken several more laps. The best laps I timed for the #25 BMW were in the 2:06 range.
The pit lane penalty was what cost BMW the race. Tomczyk was beating himself up over it pretty badly. Unarguably, the M6 GTLMs had pace this time around, which is a great change. Even still, the top 5 qualifiers in the GTLM field qualified with 0.20 seconds of each other. This was anyone's race to win or lose.

As far as lap times, you can download the Time Cards at the Al kamel Systems website:

http://imsa.alkamelsystems.com

I'm not sure what you mean by "best laps I timed" (I'm imagining you track side with a stopwatch lol), but in terms of actual lap times, the fastest lap for the #3 Corvette was 2:05.4. The #24 car fastest lap was 2:05.3. And the #25 car fastest lap was 2:05.0. Meanwhile, the #66 Ford GT, which was part of the melee at the start, turned a 2:04.7

Don't get me wrong, the BMWs are finally in the hunt, but my point is that 2nd and 3rd out of a four car fight isn't conclusive. I'm looking forward to Watkins Glenn. Too bad it's not 2018 yet so we'd get to watch BMW at Le Mans.

Also there's the obvious fact that BMW doesn't currently produce a V10 engine [for sale], let alone one that is fitted in the i8 chassis.
There's no way BMW would get away with blatantly cheating the regulations.

They already got away with skirting the rules via loopholes with the E46 GTR and Z4 GT3/GTE/GTLM/GTD.

BMW is finally being a good sport by racing what it sells, an M6 with a 4.4L TT V8.

Wow, you're right, I didn't even notice.
Strange that they ended the 6er production so abruptly without any signs of an immediate successor.
Luckily for BMW, they get to ride on a temporary extension while they find a replacement
Same thing happened when the S65 ended production, the Z4 GT3/GTLM/GTD continued to race.

Did they make an announcement on that, or still rumors?
