Rough Idle almost stalling. Any recommendations?

So I’m starting to see my RPM’s fluctuating from 400-750 both on cold start and after driving for a while. Not sure what’s going on but doesn’t make a difference if I’ve driven it for an hour or just turn it on. It keeps fluctuating and causing the car to shake when I’m sitting at a stop. I’m at 60,000 km which is roughly 37,000 miles. The only thing I’ve done to the car is downpipes and akrapovic exhaust but I’ve had these on for the past 3 years with no issues so I’m doubtful that it has anything to do with the downpipes. I’ve set up a service appointment at my local dealer but they don’t have room until April 11th to see me and thought I would ask some of you guys to chime in. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

The first step is to find out if there're any codes thrown. Get yourself F series diagnosis / coding software + cable. Helps to narrow down rather than groping in the dark and being at the mercies of dealer / mechanic.

Are you sure your spark plugs or coils aren't bad now?

I've noticed something similar at 20k miles. When cold starting and backing out of my driveway the car feels like it's almost going to stall. I have a service appointment coming up in a few weeks. Running all stock here - no mods.

Thanks I forgot to mention that I already used my code reader, and the only codes were for the check engine light that the downpipes throw since I dont have cats anymore. I've been leaning towards spark plugs and im hoping its either that or the coil packs. I remember in my E63 M6 that around the 40k mile oil change they did a spark plug change as well but not sure if they do the same thing for the X6M as im due for an oil change as well.

I have had plugs replaced 2x as maintenance. I believe at 20k intervals. I suspect that is it if you haven't replaced them at all. I doubt coils. They seem to last a while.

So how often should you replace the coils? Every two times spark plug change?

I don't see anything in schedule for coils and to my knowledge are original.

Coils on my other BMWs last 150k miles.

The tips of the plug are obviously in a brutal environment of heat and high compression explosions. Coils have it easy and simply snap on to top of plug. Nowhere near as harsh an environ and I believe their duty cycle is quite long unless a defect shows up.

I thought so too, but everyone I've spoken to say that even when their trucks were stock, it was stalling. So I'm out of ideas.

a bad injector will cause that, stock or not.

Right sorry. I worded it weirdly. People with the stock trucks got it checked by dealers and nothing was wrong with injectors.

With a decent scan tool there is an easy process to isolate a problem cylinder. You simply deactivate the injectors one at a time, and if the idle doesn't change, you found the culprit. As you turn injectors off, the engine should shake. No shake means it's already off/impaired and you found the problem.

Reviving this thread to say a buddy of mine switched to catless downpipes and the car started stalling. He coded out cold start and it fixed the issue.

Battery? Edit oh I see the above, I remem there being issues with new F85s and catless dps @ idle. Think most ECU flashes correct this.

I'm having these exact symptoms. Car idle is rough and has died even on cold starts just after backing down driveway. Didn't notice the issue before installing AFE intake so I may go back to stock. car is stock otherwise. 50k miles recently bought so not sure if plugs have been changed. Problem seems to largely disappear once warmed up
Car hasn't felt consistent since I installed intake really. When it's good it feels more responsive then stock but other times I go for gas it just seems to hesitate.
Also I've seen some people say s63 doesn't have MAF only n63. If that's the case what are the 2 sensors on each side of intake tubes?
getbmwparts calls it an air mass sensor
considering trying to clean those.
