help needed - exhasut 'pop' gone now ??

hi all

when placed in "sport" and sometimes in "efficient"....upon high revving, the exhaust pop that is normal after gear changes- has now disappeared....

Has this happened to any one ...... ??
is this a common thing ??

no work / modification / changes in drive style / fuel/gas change

NOTHING has changed, except this sound is not there anymore.....

all help is appreciated....

Go to sport plus and accelerate with a quick shift, that should tell you if its gone or not.

The "popping" is more pronounced in colder weather. As we approach summer you may not hear it as much.

Could it be the gas? Did you fill up at a different gas station recently?

From my understanding the pops is coming from unburt fuel igniting inside the exhaust system so just thinking if you got a crappy tank of gas recently the ecu adjusted to it somehow.

Full throttle/ shift mode 3 on trans doesn't work?

Gas won't have any effect on this. The shift farts are with throttle input. I forget the actual % it is, but if you're just puttering around it won't do it, but 50% + it'll fart

Thanks for that ... So when you say valves, in this case, what are you referencing, is this exhaust valves or other ??

There is a valve on each exhaust pipe and I believe it is controlled by an actuator - many have debated when they open. On my previous M5 a lot of guys wired them open so the exhaust would be louder. My guess would be that your actuator isnt triggering them to open, hence less noise. Have the dealer take a look.

I only get that "pop" when I'm nearly at redline when I shift. At least into the the yellowline. (is that a term? at the "yellowline" )

I own no garage queens. If it's in my driveway, it's been ridden hard and put away wet. ...and now, with a light crust of Maine road salt.

Same here, sometimes even lower - maybe because ours are Carbon Black.

I know you said its fixed but I'm curious to know if maybe your car wasn't completely warmed up. The only time i was never able to get the pop was when i started it on cold waited for the car to lower its tone after warming up for a minute and taking off and hitting redline shortly after. Its always worked for me after at least 10-15 minutes of the car being driven.

Hi I'm thinking (and have the weirdest feeling it was on gear shift Time - 1..... As opposed to the 3 mini bars that light up on the dash)
