I'm sure they'll tone down the front and rear ends a bit for production, and may tweak the interior somewhat, but overall this is a great looking car!! Very futuristic, this is the way the automobile industry is heading in the future. Sleeker lines, more tech, etc. etc.

That new LC500 is gorgeous.

This is not.

Hoping the grille and front bumper are cleaned up for production. The profile looks really elegant and a departure from typical BMW's. Tail lamp and rear end design works well, not sure about the exhaust tips though. I prefer the outgoing 6er to this.

Not the first fastback as he said. The Z4 coupe is a fastback.

First impression.
BMW makes new car for sale sale sale purpose not for old BMW enthusiast.
The car addresses to some show the money power people.
They forgot driver orientated dashboard.
I like : The height, the profile the fastback style and to some extent the back. Interior looks just ok.
I dislike: Kidney grills are to big to vulgar and they take the complete attention. And chrome so big looks wrong to my eyes. Front bumper is fishy, not new and boring. The back is a little saggy not showing a fast or a supercar. Front lights kinda Mazda Miata or lambo huracan I believe.
This is my first impression and I would like to be wrong when I will see it for real.
I get where and to whom they want to sell this and I will say I believe will have a very comfortable suspension

They do explicitly point out the driver angled dashboard in the interviews. It is just not obvious from the few photos they have released due to the longitudinal and rather symmetrical design of the center console / dashboard unit, versus a more traditional BMW dash where the upper part is like a horizontal stripe with a more visible curvature.

It is a trick of photography. But the dash is actually slightly tilted to the driver . Unfortunately photographs do not make this clear.

I get it.
If BMW management will read this forum I would say" yes I understand the 8, not for me, the 5, 7, x.... All are profit making cars, but for me like driving enthusiast could you please bring back the magic 3 series? The light, sporty, distinctive, simple car for less rich people. Good job with the 2 coupe and cabrio they are the best bmw you have today for me. but the icon BMW I know is the 3 and the magic should be in number 3 coupe not 4, the name history is satisfying to idiots like me".

Because at that level I don't think the dealership really shows people what to do 1:1. The people who sell the vehicles are just there to do the paper works.
As someone who actually had this position at an exotic vehicle importer in Manhattan; I can confirm 1:1 demos are performed with the end user. Although many times this is the only occasion we were face to face; understanding how to use their toy/tool is so important even these high-net-worth individuals almost always made themselves available.

The most interesting part of this is the vision on the future of design for all of the brand's vehicles. A good example is the new "form language" of the side. Van Hooydonk points out the "precise" look with "very few lines." This is the way forward for BMW.

Hard to envision how an M would incorporate the distinctive side vent into this minimalistic approach without it looking tacked on or out of place. We will see!

They will certainly use the already existing side vent and simply add an ///M8 logo stick

PS: pretty sure the M8 launch color will be red so as to reconnect with the unborn E31 M8 and the M1

BMW 8-Series Concept Looks Even Better Under The Italian Sun [32 Pics]

Quote:
BMW stunned everyone with the reveal of the new 8-Series Concept at the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este.

Not because people weren’t expecting a new 8-Series but because this design study looks pretty good. If anything, it makes people more impatient to see the final production version, which by the way will include a fully-fledged M8 version.

BMW gave the 8-Series Concept an athletic, muscular bodywork that works really well with the brand’s trademark kidney grille. The sculpted sides compliment perfectly the low roofline and the tasty rear end with the beautifully integrated wing.

Even the large air intakes/exits don’t look out of place, balancing the car’s sporty and luxurious character. “The number 8 has always represented the pinnacle of sports performance and exclusivity at BMW,” said Harald Krüger, BMW’s Chairman of the Board.

“The forthcoming BMW 8 Series Coupe will demonstrate that razor-sharp dynamics and modern luxury can go hand-in-hand. This will be the next model in the expansion of our luxury-car offering and will raise the benchmark for coupes in the segment. In the process, we will strengthen our claim to leadership in the luxury class.”

Both the standard 8-Series model and the M8 are being developed simultaneously, with BMW also planning a GTE race car which will debut in the Daytona 24 Hours in late January 2018. BMW plans to reveal the production 8-Series in 2018.

But I'm saying someone who does demos being at every dealership like being on tap. You go there and you automatically get a good demo not say 1/10 they are there wise. I mean, everyone working there you would assume they are proficient at explaining what goes on w/ the vehicles they sell like really proficient not what options they have and having no idea how they work.

This car is simply unreal from a design point of view.

Heads will be turning and most other cars are the road are going to suddenly seem very old, including other bmws.

Why would bmw turn over the design team that made this...

Wow, that is such a bold statement of a car.

I hope they don't dilute it too much in the production version.

BMW's Concept 8 Suits Up As Shooting Brake, Gran Coupe And Pickup

Quote:
If you liked BMW's Concept 8 as a Convertible, it's time you sample it in Shooting Brake, Gran Coupe and Pickup form, although we reckon you'll mostly favor two of these three body styles.

Since taking the wraps off of their Concept 8 at this year's Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d'Este, BMW have been in the spotlight with fans and car enthusiasts alike.

According to company Chairman Harald Kruger, the production version (dubbed the 8-Series Coupe) will be mostly about "razor-sharp dynamics and modern luxury" going hand in hand, which are traits you could easily associate with a modern-day Shooting Brake or a sleek 4-door.

Whether or not the Concept 8 works in all these different body styles, that's up to you to say. However, in terms of proportions, these renderings from X-Tomi look pretty realistic - aside from the Pickup, which, let's face it, is just ridiculous.

Still, if BMW was to make a Gran Coupe version and a Shooting Brake, they could arguably aim them at the likes of the Porsche Panamera or the Ferrari GTC4Lusso, respectively.
