20" M Double-spoke style 469M alloy wheels
On previous posts there was some debate over the Performance Tyre Vs All Season for those that have ordered the 3D M Sport, at least here in the UK.
At the risk of boring people, but wanting to provide a public service, I contacted BMW UK and asked them the question do the the 2PW 20" M Double-spoke style 469M alloy wheels come with AS or Performance? They didn't know so had to prefer to Germany HQ. They had an email back saying 'they are Run Flats'. Not wanting to be rude but that was NOT my question. When pushed again BMW said they are indeed All Weather Run Flat tyres. So, at least in the UK (and Europe?) I can rest in the knowledge that I won't have to fork out ~£3K for a set or tyres and alloys on top of my £55K investment! Happy Days |

You should ask which tyre exactly it is because in North America there doesn't seem to be a single all season 20 inch rft on the market.

I was lucky to get that. I really think that BMW don't have a clue about the basic's of Product Management and what they are actually selling, albeit via a dealer network. Pretty poor show really. |

this would have been the solution to my painful resolution...
I lived in London UK for a year and I know the weather is very different from Canada... so I would still feel more comfortable with Performance tires (or tyres... ) as they are also designed for wet conditions...and you get that a lot in Britain... |

At the time of manufacture BMW will use the best suited tyres that are available form any of the top five tyre brands. As you can appreciate, the brands tyre stock will fluctuate throughout the year resulting in BMW vehicles using a verity of different tyre manufacturers. I can confirm that BMW recommend any of the following brands with regards to Run-flat tyres. Goodyear Pirelli Michelin Bridgestone Continental Yours sincerely BMW UK Customer Service Executive |

That's absurd. I can understand not knowing the brand of tire, no-one can tell you that. But all-season vs. summer is something they absolutely should know. In the US, it clearly states summers and that's what you get with the 469m's. On my F30, I had 3 options:
1. 18" wheels with 'mixed' (staggered) summers 2. 18" wheels with (square) all-seasons 3. (as an upgrade) 19" wheels with mixed summers Brand of tire is never guaranteed, but the type of tire is set by BMW. Seems to me that perhaps your CA isn't asking the right people or the right questions (given that he didn't even address type of tire in his response). I don't get it. In the US they know, but in Europe it's a coin toss? you have the right to be prepared when you pick up the car. |

Unless the car was just received from SC. Even then the dealer should have swapped it with 19's and then sell the 20's in the summer. Maybe they ran out of 19 (Winters maybe, AS likely not). I will be there in a month for servicing, I will ask out of curiosity.

I've ordered 20" 551l with All Season tyres. The AS show on the factory build sheet, VIN archive download and on my order confirmation.
Went to the dealers today to have a look at the car prior to collection on Monday and guess what... It's fitted with Dunlop SP Sport Maxx summer tyres. Dealer will contact BMW UK tomorrow, but my research leads me to the same conclusion as coconut780 - there are no 20" AS RFT to fit. Still, it will be interesting to see what they come back with. |

If in fact there are no 20" AS RFT and the dealer told you so, then you should have more options to modify your wheels. If sticking with the RFT theme: swap to 19's AS, get a 2nd set of winters (19 or20). So ask your dealer for a good deal on various set ups. Free change overs, storage. Personal choice, but I prefer one set.
You never know, as KIP1 reported the M50d review was fitted with the nice 19" Hakka 7 ( winters). |
