F15 auto hold default on?
Hi,
I've been researching and it seems the answer is no. But still just wanna create a thread and clarify: Is there a way to code to have auto hold default on, so that I don't need to press the button every time I start the car and drive? Thanks.

My memory is fuzzy on this so I'm just throwing it out there just in case. But if you have AUTO-H engaged and turn off the engine...I thought it automatically engages the parking brake (button just above the AUTO-H button)...and its red LED illuminates.
Then, (if you have a 2012-up)...I thought the parking brake is automatically released when you press on the gas...and if AUTO-H was engaged it may turn back on. Have you tried this already and your system isn't working like the aforementioned scenario? BTW, I think your seat belt has to be latched for this auto-release of the parking brake to occur...but don't hold me to that one...because that's coming from a real deep and foggy place in my cognitive basement.

How is it annoying? You just need a slight tap on the gas pedal for the car to move. Unless you have a heavy foot. I do understand your point as the CA asked me to turn AH off after the test drive and I was parallel parking the car and said it makes parking easier. Well that didn't bother me at all.

I like auto hold, I use it and I find it works well with Auto Start Stop at lights. Sometimes I'll forget its off and take my foot off the brake and the engine will start and I'll cover the brake again quickly realizing I forgot it and engage it. Haha. Then good for that drive. My wife uses it much less, but likes it, normally because she forgets to turn it on.
I do not believe there is a way to code the auto on feature to always be on. While doing my car I did not see the option. Nor does a quick google search show me anything. You can set default driving profile ( eco, comfort, sport) and tailor that to specific drivers profiles/keys through coding ( setting default start profile) but not auto hold. The auto-h button/interface is a bit more outside of the computers control than say the drivers/profiles/keys which is why IMO it is not able to be coded as its not as controllable, perhaps by design? Possible some legal reasons I can see if that was always on. Just my 2 cents. Cheers |

I think it's just something BMW had to keep improving by listening to their customers...

On my M3 E92 is was on by default when starting the car up. I bought the car used, so no idea if the previous owner had it coded.. but either way it was very useful. Anyone got it on by fault in their F15?

I don't know the main reason why (question to BMW, and I personally think it is very annoying to have auto hold always on) but my guess would be that on M cars with DCT transmission or F85 doesn't even have a park option on the shifter.

In regards to “auto hold” on the e92 vs the f15...are we discussing the same thing? Or could we be conflating two different electronic braking features these two models have? Just curious because I don’t remember electronic braking/auto-hold being around during the e92 era either...but I must admit that I didn’t follow the 3 series that much...so perhaps it snuck by me.

Love it on my M5. Then I get annoyed when I don't have it on my now wife's, X5. Lol

I thought the Auto-H switch (#3 in illustration below) was standard equipment on the f15...am I learning something new?

u must've had an E92 M3 with DCT then. i rmb the M DCTs had a feature that emulate a false "neutral" so that when ur stationary and not touching the gas pedal, even when in "drive", the car will not roll forwards like a traditional automatic does. or ur just thinking of hill hold assist which was in the E92 as well.

...see the TIS insert in post #19 above...the bottom paragraph gives a brief description of Auto-Hold and you’re correct that DSC uses the 4 brakes initially...but when the car comes to a standstill it engages the parking brake. So it appears to use both braking systems...which accounts for the parking brake being on if you turn the car off (with Auto-H being on) and upon restart you’ll see that the parking brake is engaged...which you can release by simply pressing the accelerator pedal (or you can manually release the parking brake, too).
