I've been following your posts about your X5M. Crazy to be that delayed when other people in your area have been collecting their cars for weeks already. Can't wait to see what you have planned for it when it arrives. Alan

Everyone says that it changes the way the exhaust sounds with the MPPK. The delivery specialist thought I had the 50i when they were pulling in my X5 because he said it sounded different from the other 35i MPG shouldnt be affected. Def. not going to improve it giving its nature. What i like about the MPPK is the fact that it alters other areas of the car besides peak numbers. Think of what hitting Sport mode does to the car currently and the MPPK takes that up another notch in terms of feel and power. Alan

I've never driven a non MPPK F15 X5 35i but I did have a 2013 E70 X5 35i for a week before and the power, throttle response and transmission logic is 10000x better in my F15. The E70 felt numb and anemic where as my MPPK X5 feels athletic. The 50i i can only imagine would feel like a rocketship like my 550 did. Alan

Great update. So did you end up using only 3M adhesive all around? No messy beta link?

@Alan l. - you are really tempting me to get MPPK and the front/rear splitters. I am not a fan of the CF rear Flaps though..
Does BMW offer CF spoiler's or only gloss black? Also how difficult was it to install the M50D open grills? I think I will leave off the silver Grill Blades though... |

I was really against using betalink because that stuff is messy as hell and its permanent. I don't plan on ever taking off the CF parts but i have to plan just incase they get damaged from other people hitting me that I will be able to remove/replace the parts relatively easily. Thats not possible with betalink imo. Alan

Each piece can be ordered separately. The only part that comes gloss black is the roof spoiler. Everything else comes in CF only. As for the rear wings/flaps it looks best when you see the whole truck from a distance. It looks alittle strange by itself but it ties in to the rest of the rear diffuser imo. Gives it alittle of the old X5 4.8is look which i always liked. Installing the m50D fins isn't hard. Doing the open face grills was a b1tch and a half along with the reflector. I originally tried to do this with just pulling back part of the fender liner but that wasn't going to work. There is a good amount of stuff you need to remove before you can pull the grills out from behind as well as accessing the front reflectors which are sandwiched by another part. Those one time use tabs holding the fender flares are the stupidest things i've ever seen from BMW. Alan

Thanks and yes the M50 fins and the open grill made a huge impact on the front end. Looks so much better now!
I almost wanted to call you yest because i didn't realize how those stupid one time use tabs worked. I figured it out but what do you guys use to install those nice and tight? its stupid how you have to hold the tab while pulling on the pin at the same time. Seems counter productive. Alan

I believe you are talking about the 1 time use plastic rivet. For that, I uses two pliers with open middle like this. I put the smooth part against the fender to hold the rivet in place, while use the other one to pull the rod enough until its snapping point. If you are talking about that locking ring to hold the M50d trim, I uses 8mm deep socket to push the lock ring while holding the trim from the other side.

Yeah I am talking about the one time use rivet. I did the same thing and it just seems counter productive because you need to use one hand to push up while the other hand is pulling it down. Dumb design.
I did the same thing for the M50D trim. Worked like a charm. Alan

Okay so I need to purchase the rivets separately when I get the lower grills since to access / install the grill I need to open the wheel well?

The other 2 ways are: - Open up the bottom side cover. It is not possible if you have the 50i or the 35d. - Glue up the trim if you are not changing the open grill. Caution: it may fell off. Some member lost 1 already from using this method.

Kzang - I highly suggest you remove the entire fender line if you plan on doing the reflectors and open grills. Order the grills and rivets from Ben and follow IND's DIY on their X5M reflector install. Its pretty much exactly what i did for my car. It is easier on the 35i since both sides is wide open without any additional coolers in that area.
Alan
