Comfort Seat vs. Standard
Hi all,
Is anyone able to provide an evaluation/comparison between ordering Front Comfort Seats vs. the Standard? Is it very different? what are the differences? Is it worth the extra couple of G's? Folks who have the Standard, are you happy and comfortable? Folks who ordered CS, are you happy with your decision? Pros/Cons? thx |

For me personally, I've gotten used to the side bolsters that come with sport or comfort (multi contour) seats. As a result, I just can't go back to the standard seats, even for my wife's car. I tried on this one and just prefer having those bolsters holding you in place. I highly recommend sport or multi contour. The MC gives you that much more, being able to curve the back of the seat right around your back (bends in half), etc.
If you don't want the seats to curve around you, I'm sure the standard seats are plenty comfortable and supportive. Seats are one of the things BMW does very well. |

So, the big differences are:
1. Better padding 2. Electrically adjustable side bolsters (also on sport) 3. Electrically adjustable thigh support (front cushion that slides back and forth) 4. Electrically adjustable head restraints (up/down) 5. "Wings" on the head restraint you can wrap around your head (think your favorite airline seat) 6. Electrically adjustable lumbar support (varies by market). This one doesn't do it for me, but others swear by it. ...and, the absolute winner for me: 7. Higher seat back / extended shoulder support that's also electrically adjustable. This is an extra "hinged" section in the seat that you can bend around your shoulders to perfectly support you in almost any driving position. I had a brief "liaison" with Range Rover after my 2013 X5M was repurchased. The seats absolutely suck in comparison with BMW's. Multicontour seats were at the top of my option list when I ordered my new X5 - I wouldn't buy a BMW without them. -Alistair |

What about sport seats, are they similar to CS? Because I don't think you can get CS with M Sport?
Maybe someone can post side by side pics of all 3 for visual |

Don't forget the cost of upgrading from M Sport sport seats to Comfort seats is not that much compared to SE (standard) to Comfort.
Its a no brainer for me, having driven my current 30dM on sports seats, Im ordering my new X5 with comfort seat option. I was fortunate enough to be able to try out the sports and comfort seats at my local dealer recently. |

I have comfort seats on my F11, and they are the best car seats I've sat in. Even Sports Seats feel too firm after living with Comfort Seats, though if you'd never tried the Comfort Seats you'd no doubt be happy with Sports Seats.
That said, the new X5 standard seats are supposed to be a big improvement on the older models, but good look getting to sit in them. Most demo's are MSport or have the Sports Seats added. I wouldnt take the risk on such an expensive motor, nothing worse than uncomfortable seats.... Last edited by archivedaccount; 11-19-2013 at 10:16 AM.. |

actually I sat in one with comfort seat...lol
I also sat in one with standard... the only issue I have currently is that the color that I want does not come with comfort seat...so I've asked production if they can get me the comfort seat with the leather that I want...that's probably a $400 special order topped on the CS upgrade |

Typical lol!
What did you think of the difference between comfort and standard? Guess it's a little difficult in such a short space of time. It's 1hr+ journeys where you really find out if you've picked the right seat. I had to sell a car 6months after buying it because the seats were so uncomfortable. Is it Mocha you are after? We can order Mocha dakota on the MSport comfort seat for no additional cost in the UK. Shame you have to pay extra? Update- actually you are right - cant be selected with Comfort seat but can be with Sport seat. only way to get it is to add the exclusive package at £2k. Ouch! |

The one I reviewed had the standard seats. The were comfortable, but I would have preferred the Sport or Comfort seats with at least side bolsters.

I don't want SportM...'cause I don't like the steering wheel...it's too small and sporty which doesn't go with this vehicle IMO...
Yes Mocha Dakota with CS...that's what I'm after and trying to sort out with production... Luxury line CS only comes in Black & Beige-like color... |

don't want nappa...too soft and not really ideal with kids...
Production just confirmed that they can't offer dakota with CS... only Nappa... so I will have to stick with normal seats |

Coming from 3 generations of X5 with standard seats I found the sports seats in my new 2014 X5 a huge improvement. The support on the sides and the extension for longer legs makes these seats a no brainer. Never tried the comfort seats but for the use we have for this car it was not worth since we only drive in the city and for not longer than 30 min without getting out.

I have standard seats and I don't have any complaints when driving short distances, but I have taken a couple of short 3 hour road trips and after a couple of hours I found myself wishing I had splurged on the multi-contour seats. If you drive long distances, I would not recommend the standard seats.

OK. soooo as much as I liked the Dakota Mocha, something tells me I need to look for the Nappa because at least I get the comfort seat with the color that I want...
I've asked my dealership to give me a complete price for the upgrade... |

I had comfort seats on my previous X5. I have sport seats on my new X5. And, I've had sport seats on other BMW models. Personally, I prefer the sport seats over comfort. I could honestly never get the comfort seats to a position that I liked. I fiddled with it all the time. With the sport seats, I can just make a couple of adjustments and they feel just right.
