Heated steering wheel fault code

My heated steering wheel worked fine last winter, but this season it will not work at all.

I press the button on the wheel and the light turns on then immediately goes out. I scanned with Carly and got code 030482: Heated Steering Wheel Short.

I just replaced the main battery and the problem persists. Aux battery voltage looks normal. Any ideas? I searched and found a thread of f30 owners that fixed the issue by "resetting the FEM with ISTA+," however I don't think the f15 has an FEM module.

I've also disconnected both batteries and let the car sit for an hour, but that didn't do anything either.

Maybe you should try to find the resetting option in BDC module?

Is this a real thing? Do I need all the coding files for ISTA+ to do this or can I do it with diagnostics only?

When you look up the fault code you listed…for the f15…the fault is in the BDC….but the issue is not the control module…it is a short in the steering wheel’s heating mesh. Perhaps the connections from the steering wheel to the steering column has a short…or the short is actually in the heating mesh itself?

diagnostics only is enough to do so.

For anyone that finds this thread with the same issue, I figured out the cause of this fault. I think generally you can assume the heating element in the wheel is broken in some way. In my case, over the summer I replaced the little stripe on top of my steering wheel because it was worn down. I accidentally severed one of the tiny copper wires that heat the wheel during that process. Guess it's new steering wheel time!

Thanks for the update and confirmation of the 030482 fault code…it was the heating mesh.
