Yes, contract hired it through the local dealer, they use Alphabet/BMW Financial Services (one and the same I think) The BMW contract hire rates are so much better than anyone elses, and BMW's seem to have a much higher residual value than other brands. I'm paying over a £100 less per month for my new X5 compared to my previous RX450h for the same contract period and mileage even though the list price on the X5 is over £10k more then the RX and the X5 has far more toys in it!!

Thanks, yes they are the same but what is not are the contract hire rates you get from the different dealers, I guess that's a local margin decision. I have prices which are less than my E70 was 2 years ago based on the same P11D values, Lexus or Landrover do not support contract hire like BMW will

Are you sure about that, dealers giving different rates? If they are using Alphabet/BMW Financial surely they quote the same price, they did with me when I checked out two dealers, identical to the penny.

The only differences I saw was where a 3rd party leasing company like Lex was quoting and they were more than BMW direct.

Based on a post I read a little while back, dealer discounting is off limits for the X5 due to the high demand with the threat of lost build slots if discounts are given.

I tested 30d, and bought 40d. 300ch is the minimum on a 2.2t car to keep it agile enough and accelerate stronger when necessary. For example, when you enter a motorway, sometimes there is a lot of traffic and no one wants to let you get in: in such case I switch to sport mode + S gearbox mode, and push hard on the accelerator. I don't need to worry about the trucks coming from behind because I'm sure I'll be able to reach a higher speed in few seconds.

My previous car was a 911 so I really felt that 258hp was too low. 40d is a good compromise between 30d and m50d. m50d has even more power of course, but as it won't transform the X5 in a race car anyway..
Btw, 40d is announced at 5.9s (0-100kmh), where 30d can only perform 6.9s. This is a huge gap. m50d is 5.3s, not that much better than 40d in fact.

Concerning the front kidney grilles, mine came with black/aluminium ones (m sport). I added m sport full black ones (see picture here :
http://f15.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho...=997471&page=2).

Yep sure I have 2 written quotes both use BMW Finance Services and both are different for exactly the same spec/finance

Yes Alphabet lease rates are among the best out there. I read the post re banned discounting shortly after I negotiated a £6000 discount on and subsequently ordered my X5 (as spec'd £62000 otr) so I was a bit worried about possible repercussions until it was actually built!

Back in Feb / March they seemed quite keen to haggle, not the case now I'm sure!

Interesting thread although I don't really want to get any second thoughts about my 30d order, which has already changed a few times The MY2015 30d is now listed as 0-100km in 6.8s so the 40d is 0.9s faster than 30d, and the 50d is 0.6s faster than the 40d.

A couple of questions, apart from the engine and the titanium grille, are there any other differences between the 30d and 40d? What about insurance premiums, are people finding that they have to pay much more for the 40d than the 30d?

Have you checked you order status with dealer / customer services recently? It'll be interesting to see if you have departed plant too!

I tested both went for the 3.0d. Very pleased with it more than enough power for everyday driving. Engine has a pleasing sound and pulls well from low revs. Gearbox is well matched. 35mpg in mixed driving. I use comfort and sport settings both are fine with no lag. Anybody who has ordered the. 3.0d won't be disappointed. They have just tweaked the gearbox settings with 0.1 off 0-60!

Torque and horsepower, like crack and heroin, are highly addictive for most men.

When are the releasing the X5 60D?

Garage List
One will be much happier with 30d to be honest. But then getting a 40d you get more options included (at least here in Australia), otherwise you would be paying for in a 30d. I think the current generation engine on the X15 which is in fact the same on the F25 X3, is a lot more refined and power delivery is linear and incredibly smooth. I was blown away by the refinement.

If you have the money then go for the 40d, but keep the money buy the 30d and option it to your heart's content. You will not be disappointed with not having a 40d but may be disappointed if you don't have the options - creature comfort and toys - you want.

Good luck with your decision and purchase

Apart from the grill, the exhaust on the 40D is different too. It's got the same look as the 50i one. Nice and big I really didn't like the small round ones on the 25d and 30d. Also heard the sound of the engine is better, but I have yet to confirm this, as my car hasn't arrived yet

Before I made a choice towards 4.0d I tested 3.0d as well.
Be honest with you that 3.0d is definitely enough for everyday life!
But sometimes you want a bit more-this is all about it.
Of cause that 5.0d will be even faster!
I could easily choose 5.0d but than I would have less options which I wanted to have (as I put some $ limit on the car price for myself).
So I found my compromise is 4.0d.
But once more that 3.0d is enough for everyday driving and you will not feel yourself as a turtle

My E70 30d has been great over the last 3 years and shows an average 35 mpg (UK gallons), although this is probably 10% over and I have had it flat out in Germany with 145mph on the dial (actual probably 132mph) and all in all it is enough. Having said that power is addictive and I've ordered the 50d F16 for Jan and once run-in i'll be nipping in to Germany.

Are you referring to the 3D M Sport? They are large and square NOT small and round

Well would loved to have the 40D. But that 'extra turbo' costs in the Netherlands app. 6.000€ extra, and no other extra options comes with the 40D. So took the 30D and a lots of options.
