connecting a smartphone for music via bluetooth?

This may be a silly question, but I've tried syncing my iphone with other cars like Ford or Kia via bluetooth and it is a matter of seconds to get the smartphone play music through the car, but for whatever reason, I can't find the sync button on the F15.
Can someone tell me how it's done please? Thank you

I've never owned a ford or a Kia so I am not sure what the sync button does. But if you just want to stream music from your phone via Bluetooth you can navigate to multimedia->external devices-> Bluetooth audio in iDrive (assuming the phone is paired with the car already).

Well, yes, but that's the thing: on the external devices page I only get two options, one is "AUX" and the other (I can't remember what but I think it is USB)...both require connecting via cable/wire... but no Bluetooth!
and my phone is paired...That's the confusing part!!!

You should go to your settings connections and configure bluetooth for your device...select "bluetooth audio"

I saw a similar thread in X3 forum where the Bluetooth option was missing yet paid for.--->> http://x3.xbimmers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=536121

Syncing is very easy with a smart phone for Bluetooth audio.

Did you tick the Bluetooth audio option just to confirm? Tried another smartphone?

Thanks partner...I think this is the route I need to take...I think my phone is only paired for voice and not music...as I do not see it when going on external devices...I will try it and will update. Cheers

I followed the instructions you had sent...and just as I suspected...I only get the "Telephone" check box and not the Audio...I tried several times but no "Audio" checkbox...this is why I'm confused.
Am I doing something wrong or there is something fishy with the system software?

Have you tried another phone? Preferably also a non Apple device to test?

I will try an Android phone today to see if it works...will let you know.
What's the next step if that didn't work?
and...if the Android works, what does it tell me about the brand new iPhone5 that is not working?

In different threads some iOS versions(not necessarily phones) have some idrive compatibility issues. If all doesn't work see your dealer, but before that check this site to confirm you actually purchased Bluetooth audio option here --->>> http://www.bmwarchive.org/vin/bmw-vin-decoder.html. If both fail you can retrofit it check our the bimmertech site.

Best of luck let us know how it turns out.
