I the question concerns the F15 in general my opinion is M-sport with 599M OEM 21". But for the X-line I would say the 451.
IMO the 599M 22" replicas looks a bit too much. |

Besides some safety concern of replicas, and the ride quality of 22 inch versus 20, I prefer the 22 inch over 21, as it fills the gaps better, and the tyre change would be more cost effective. There may also be a risk of rubbing the inner wall, although I read from members here that there are no issues with that.
At the moment, I would label it as a good to have, as my in laws are going to be in town end of the year, which means the 3rd row will constantly be up, and the last thing I want is have them giving me grief on a sore butt due to harsher ride

I have several friends running 22" wheels fitted with all season pirelli's on their X5 ( all with Adaptive M suspension ) and the ride quality is superior over my 20" OEM run flat tire. I had to test drive them myself to confirm it.
Also from what I am told 22" tires are easier to find and cheaper than 21" tires.

On the comfort level, I suspect the 22" setup in that case, might be due to the square setup, instead of staggered. I am not 100% sure, but staggered setup while gives better handling, gives louder tyre roar due to the wider tyres, which may add to a perception of discomfort. On all my rides in my life, I have always upgraded the wheels to max legal (or beyond by a little), meaning 2-3 inches above maximum, and without fail, while it drives better, ride always suffers and noise goes up.
