What would be your second SUV..
Let's say you only have the X5 now. If you had $150k cash and had to spend it on a second SUV, what would you buy? (can't keep leftover cash!)
Recently, I've been interested in the new Lexus LX570. Since it shares the same base as the Toyota Land Cruiser, its off-road capabilities are impressive. Combined with sumptuous luxury and bulletproof reliability, I think it would be a nice choice.

Definitely not the LX. I test drove one and it was probably one of the worst vehicles I've ever driven.
I'd probably buy whatever the wifey wants. And I know she'd like to pull up at my son's daycare in a triple black Rover truck! Haha, I can picture it now... |

The Lexus LX570 is a very capable vehicle, but it's not very pretty. The predator face looks weird on an IS but looks even more out of place on a huge SUV. If you plan on off roading, go for it. Huge V8 won't be overly stressed and car will probably last forever.
If it were me, and I only needed 5 seats, I'd get a G63. Design will last forever. As capable as a land cruiser?? (Not sure) something attractive about driving an old school military truck. I would also consider a full sized Range Rover. Doesn't appeal to me as much as the G wagon though |

LX570 - the whole predator face was definitely what appalled me when I first saw the LX. It was all I saw on the front fascia. But the design has grown on me and the sharp lines on the LX are starting to make sense. The stock rims are not my taste; I'd swap them for the ones you see above but I have no clue what brand they are.
RR - Long Wheelbase with the Black Pack would be amazing. I am still afraid of the reliability; I know a few who are RR owners and vow to never buy another one. And there are others who have no issues with it at all. A mixed batch. Still, I wouldn't feel comfortable taking it on a long road trip considering its questionable reliability reputation. G63 - Definitely a contender; I've always fantasized of owning one. It's unique and it has aged very well; timeless design. I sat in the back of one though and legroom is a bit tight. Handling/steering is nothing to write home about either. But the V8 BiTurbo engine note is sufficient to convince one to purchase. GLS63 AMG - I don't know what it is but I like the previous generation GL63 design more. The current one looks a bit bloated, so to speak. I'd pick the G63 over the GLS63.

I have a few friends with G55s and G63s. Talk about an uncomfortable vehicle. Driving them is a full time job. But they certainly look and sound great...

Driving a 2011 X5 50i, I traded it for a 2015 X5 M.
Turned out to be much more different and better than expected. All other cars mentioned above are very respectable and I tried some of them, but until now I still would choose again a X5 M. |
