I took my car to a dealership to fix messaging issue (connected drive not connecting to a network). They were updating s/wares left and right all day yesterday. Now they called saying software was loaded but keeps giving message 'maintenace required'.
They just told me that there is issue with a module and they need to replace whole idrive module. So frustrating.
I am going there to talk to them but I am just frustrated they do not have a clue what is going on. Why replacing the whole thing when software is in question. Have you heard anything before about this? Thanks.

Let them have a chance to replace it for free - meanwhile enjoy the loaner; then if this repair doesn't fix the problem call BMW USA and escalate the issue - you'll be glad you did! Good luck!

That would be a very next step. If software fails to load, relapsing hardware is the next step. Sort of like with... iPhone. If it fails to restore ( ones restore is properly done) it is a hardware issue.

Customer Relations: 1-800-831-1117.
I bet the service center will repair the one you have with a reprogram- however; like the others mentioned -if not, then they will replace the part. Use the number as a last ditch effort if you don't get anywhere with the service center.

I don't see what the problem is. Let them do what they need to do. It's covered under warranty. It's free. I assume they gave you a loaner. These cars are incredibly complex. I'm amazed that they are as reliable as they are. That said, being as complex as they are, 100% reliability is obviously not a realistic expectation. It doesn't seem like something that you need to be "so frustrated" about, unless there is more to the story. If this were the worst thing that happened to me this week, I think I could deal with it.

It was fixed finaly. But frustration is with the fact they DID NOT know they fixed it. They told me to take car home and they ordered a part and that I should bring it in next month. I seat in the car started driving and well all is OK. I go home send google address, bum address is there in my messages. None of them knew what the heck is going on that is bad part. And no they did not have BMW loaner but rather Hertz rental some crappy Hyundai hybrid sonata. Man that car sucks.

OK, so there was a little more to the story. Anyway, glad it got fixed.
