Noise from behind drivers side wheel

So all the sudden got a pretty bad noise while driving slow coming from behind my driver side wheel. It's not the strut component and I'm thinking it's a bushing. It's only at slow speeds and I can also get it to make noise when getting In and out of the car and even when shutting the door.

I'm a bit weirded out due to how sudden it is. From nothing 3 days ago to now almost constantly driving around the city.

Like I said before thinking one of the bushings down there but that would surprise me too since I'm only at 30k miles.

Doesn't sound like what I had in my toyota but we had a broken tpms sensor on the driver's side front tyre. It would only rattle around and lower speeds coz at higher speeds the Gs would slam it to the side....

My local mechanic warned me of similar things as he inspects it every oil change, 5K miles. Will have another soon, so will see how it goes.

I have the same exact problem. Almost sounds like coffee brewing or similar. It's been getting worse. Need to take it in. I read somewhere else it could be a lower control arm. It only makes the sounds at 30 mph and under. Sound is worse at lower speeds

It's the control arms. I had the same problem. Dealer changed out both upper and lower. You can sometimes duplicate it by pushing downward on the left front fender or lifting up from underneath the front wheel well. There's a service bulletin on this and is covered under warranty.

Ya pretty sure it's not the TPMS as it makes the sound when I get out of the car. And I can get it to sound when I push down on the fender as well. Unfortunately my car isn't under factory warranty as of March. Go figure. But I do have the platinum BMW extended warranty so I should be good and I'm sure full replacement will cost more than my deductible.

is it a clunk or more like a rubbing rubber sound? could just be the strut shaft?

Well today took a drive with the shop foreman and go figure I couldn't get the care to reproduce the sound. It sang all day Saturday and now today barely a peep. So I'm gonna drop it off Thursday and he's gonna conduct an extended test drive through the weekend until he can pin point it. Even rocking on the fender I couldn't reproduce it. Fml.

Lol ya basically. I'd hold onto it until it makes the sounds again but since I'll be out of town this weekend it's no skin off my nose

That's the service bulletin for the control arms. Did you get it taken care of?

Nope. Noise went away for the last month and just came back this week but then I tackled the plugs instead. Also nervous to take it in and find out my extended platinum warranty won't cover it despite the SIB

I would try to use "good will" technique...loyal customer, purchased warranty, SIB states control arm parts are to be replaced in pairs and the parts are "updated" which suggest that the original parts were defective parts. You will need a 4-wheel alignment after replacement of the parts. Maybe negotiate you'll pay for alignment which you'll need anyhow in the future regardless of control arm changes. See if they can go to BMW NA and foot the bill for parts and labor which is not cheap for 2 new control arm replacement.

Like kewl said, you'll need an alignment after the new control arms are installed but that is included. I wouldn't offer to pay for anything as it opens the door for negotiations and the dealer may try to take advantage of that. Any reputable dealer will not make you pay for this being that you have an extended platinum warranty and that there's a SIB on it. It's a known issue and should be taken care of by your dealer. You can always escalate the issue if they give you the run around but you won't know until you actually try. Write down the SIB provided, make an appointment, bring the car in, hand the SIB to your SA and drive off in your loaner.

Ya this is essentially what I'm thinking of doing. She and I have a pretty good relationship now but her manager is an idiot. And I have no doubt he will try and fight me. But yes I have a huge bug up my ass about replaced part numbers etc. I just found a crack in one of my PLASTIC crank case oil lines when changing my spark plugs. Oil was all over the top of my engine and when I was attempting to wipe it it completely broke in two. Took it in to the parts department to find it was replaced with a new part number 4 months after my car was built and then replaced again in 2016 with the current part (thick durable rubber line). I nearly went to a manager to complain and demand that they cover the part but I didn't want the headache and chose to just eat the $130 new better part.

In the photo the broken ribbed plastic piece is the old part. The this rubber part behind it is the current version.

It is not covered under warranty. I have cpo warranty and that wouldn't cover it. I got it covered under good will because it happened a week after getting the car. If they don't fix it it's not a big deal. The control arms are cheap and easy to swap on your own.
