What is done at the 6K service for X5M?

My F85 is approaching 6K soon and the dash is showing service is required within a few hundred miles. Can anyone tell me what is actually done at this service?

Thanks
Alan

I just pulled my paperwork. All it says is standard scope, check control messages, check indicator and warning lights, function check of parking brake with dynamo meter.

Engine oil service, changed wiper blades, 40 point courtesy inspection.

Sorry, that's all I got.

I didn't think there was a 6k service...? I just hit 5k, and mine shows service due in 4700 miles. (subscribed...)

Did they change it for the 2017 cars? Mine is a 2016 and my car shows service is due at 6K.

There was a change in coverage for 2017, but it is really just to exclude "wear and tear" items... pads, rotors, wiper blades, etc. Oil and other fluid changes are still included. My understanding was that the service schedule was still the same.

Maybe someone else knows....?

I'm at 7K and I'm due in 2800 miles. Never got a 6K reminder.

Isn't the service schedule set up as a dynamic counter? Harder your drive faster service intervals will be required?

Interesting. I don't drive my car hard at all so doubt the computer thinks i need to have the oil changed 4K earlier than sm16's car. I guess i do mostly short commutes but even thats questionable that my car needs its second service at 6K and others at 10K. I just don't want to waste my time going in and they tell me "oh your car doesn't need anything".

Service is every 10K miles or once a year. If you're approaching the one year mark, that is why you're getting that message.

That makes sense. I've only had my ride since Oct '16.

It's likely the computer calling for service. I'd suspect the batteries.

Service is based off of fuel consumption, more fuel you burn the more frequent the oil change interval, I just hit 12500 miles and have had the 1200mi running in check, and two other oil services, the 6k service would be your first oil service after the running in check, it varies for every car. I drive mine like a stole it all the time, average only around 11mpg, I also just replaced all four tires today.

Hmmmmm you sound just like me

Mine always have started out at either 6k or 7k to next service on the dash.

I know have 23k on mine (May 2015 delivery) and I think I recall somewhere around 2k or so to go this morning when I started up but don't quote me on that one, i just know it's coming up soon.

For tires I got around 15k on them but should have replaced sooner, it's just because they were on back order for long

I did ask my SA about what I thought was a "short interval" considering it's "free to us" and he said that they are being very aggressive on the maintenance servicing of these beasts.

In theory it makes sense but I think they changed the intervals. I drive hard. My mpg on the '13 was between 11 and 12 mpg but my service interval was 10k. I'm getting 13 mpg on my '16 but got the service alert at 6k.

You've had the car for a year then.

Service is every 10K miles, and or once a year. My batteries were replaced during my 10K service, but I was only at 8K miles at the time, and then I got another service reminder around 15K miles. It just depends on the car and SA. I could have waited until 10K miles but they took my car in earlier. Same when I was around 15K miles, since I was close to reaching 10K miles, the service reminder came on.

I just added my first quart of oil (since the 1200 mile break-in service) at 5400 miles.

Dropped my car off this morning with about 6K on the odometer. They said all i need is an oil change. Battery gets changed at the 3rd service.

Interesting and I guess I should be "knocking on wood" as I'm over 23,000 on mine in just under 2 years and to date I've never had to add an extra quart of oil between scheduled service. My service intervals have been around every 8,000 miles.
