adblue system fault
over the past month I have had this warning appear thrice on my f15 30d(35d in the us)
each Time after a bout of spirited driving once engine temperature is up. The first time it appeared it was a very cold night and I had left the headlights on and battery was low and when I took it out for a long drive to recharge battery it appeared. Car runs fine and warning disappears when I turn the car on the next day. car is not in warranty Is it ok just to ignore given car is running fine? |

Adblue solution is prone to freezing. If the battery is low (old) the heating element for the Adblue tank is disconnected hence the problems. Also make sure you top it up only with OEM Adblue.

I would not ignore this message, may be it is a old battery but it can be something else.
https://f15.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1453022 Run ISTA tests to see what triggered the error. |

Since you are in "UK" maybe it is your metering unit. It seems like metering units tend to fail more frequently in your neck of the woods.

Good links. eye watering amounts if indeed there is a problem. went for a 100 mile run yesterday no issues. we are going into nationwide covid lockdown on 26th for 3 weeks and earliest appointment dealer could give me was end of January. Im thinking of going to an indy and having a diagnostic.

I'd also add a diesel fuel treatment with an anti-gelling additive in order to avoid being stuck with a no-start due to gelled fuel as a result of the cold temperatures you're in now. And finally, it might be worthwhile to consider topping up the DEF/AdBlu with fresh fluid as it can freeze in very cold temperatures too (a larger volume of fluid takes longer to freeze than the smaller volume). Might not help, but wouldn't hurt either. I had an AdBlu issue on a Q7 TDI a few years back when we had a "polar vortex" settle over our area - freezing temps caused damage in the system somewhere. I was still able to drive until things got replaced under warranty. |
