F15 vs E70 questions
After having my 2012 E70 for 4 years I recently traded it in for a 2016 F15 and although many of us are aware of the differences, I am having trouble wrapping my head around a few different features and would love some help with.
My 2012 didn't have different modes to switch like comfort and sport. I thought if I just put my new F15 in sport all the time it would be a similar ride, but my sport mode has some usual shifting points that do not seem to do well just driving around the city, however the comfort mode severly lacks power. Was my 2012 set to something similar to sport mode? Can I adjust settings to get it drive similar to my former 2012? Also on my E70, all the front grills would allow air to pass, on the F15, most of the front bumper grills are fake and don't allow any airflow except the bottom half of one. I would love to replace these with something that looks better but do not want to negatively hurt my car. Has anyone replaced these? Does anyone recommend any products in particular? |

The front grills on the F15 are active. That means that whenever it needs more air, they will open up. I took this pictures just 2 days ago for someone asking about this very feature.

Never noticed these being active
Mine are always open with the radiator visible. Am I missing something?

It does not apply to the M50D. This is the part and the engines it works on:

Difference between Comfort Mode <> Sports Mode is changing gears sooner (comfort) or later (sport, re acceleration). Depending on model the shock absorbers get stiffer in sports mode.
Grille flaps yes / no - depending on model. (Diesel, Gas, cars equipped with trailer hitch and needs extra cooler, Hybrid Model) On my X5 40e grille does not have flaps, even M-Style bumper left side grill is opended. If you are look for M-Style bumper grilles are only open on certain models. Anyhow, F15 is -for me - a far better car than e70. Congrats (the e70 had smaller grilles, maybe a reason) |

Some great info here, as I had no idea of the active flaps.
I was specifically referring to the front bumper grills below the head lights. On the F15, there is a center grill that air can pass through, then on one side there is a fake grill that looks like a grill but it is solid, and on the other side, the top half of the grill is solid and the bottom half is open for air to pass through. I just feel like the fake looking grills look very cheap and on the E70 I remember all the grills being real. I didn't know if there is an after market grill kit or if anyone has altered the grills. I would love the aesthetic look of a real grill but I am under the assumption these areas are blocked from airflow for a reason and I don't want to mess up anything by changing that if that is a risk. |

There were the two grills I was looking at replacing:
Bottom left is half closed and bottom right is all closed. I just think it looks tacky, doesn't anyone know of any aftermarket replacements for these two, and if there any concern with replacing these or having having air flow here? |

Ben from r33_RGSport a sponsor on here, sells the half open grill for the other side and the corresponding trim piece that goes on the middle like the one on the M50d

...I think it is the AKKS feature (not the CO2 package) that indicates that you have the "active" duct cooling feature (the flaps).
If you pull up the diagram for your X (using your VIN)...and look above the part nbr index...you'll see that there are FOUR different cooling ducts pictured (#6/#7/#10/#11)...and it is #7 that has the active flaps (AKKS). If you look at the other parts *#6/#10/#11) you will see some of them also have "yes" for the "CO2 package" yet the do not have the active flaps (AKKS)

Sadly the active grill flaps are not available on M Package, just on some Xline / Luxury variants https://f15.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh...12&postcount=3
