Am I missing something?
I have informational displays all over my X5. I'm just wondering why this area in my cluster never has anything displayed.
Is that just the way it? |

I'm not even sure of the allure of the digital screen dials vs the analog dials.
Shows the same info, no? I'd think traditional analog would be much easier on the eyes at night. |

Because you sees through it "from krypton".
Ok, on serious side, that area is for ACC (Aftive Cruise Control) and Lane Detection thing.

Yea the gaugle cluster area is pretty weak. My previous car, a Corvette showed much more info like the map, tire pressure, tire temp, song info, etc.

But at least we get digital needles unlock the GLE. Mercedes looks ancient.

I'd love to see a digital speedo there. I have the HUD....but when I wear my polarized sunglasses the HUD disappears. The lane departure warning graphic takes up little space there.

If I wear certain polarized glasses, HUD disappears, but I've noticed the blue tint polarized are still ok. Gold are not.

I drive is miles above the command in the picture above.
I find the I Drive has a better line of sight and less distracting than looking at the gauges, thus, would find maps or media info to be distracting. HUD, obviously, is the best. I prefer the analog gauges and would not order a BMW with digital, unless there was killer application, which I have not seen. |

When the sun hits that area from an angle, you can see all the symbols that would light up if you had the various features. Lane departure is def one of them. I'll have to take note of other symbols next time I'm in the car.

That should be for active cruise control (laser) and collision warning. Lane departure should be on lower right hand side. |

Lane departure is at the top center of the area circled in the OPs post, at least it is in my car and based on Kzang's pic, his too.

You'r not missing anything, Lane departure is just a an Led indicator (ie 2 dotted yellow lines) on the right lower of the screen. The Center screen shows Navigation Arrows when you don't have or turn off the head's up display, ACC distance, and Collision warning (the red car) that about it, other wise its just blank.

it is a last ditch attempt to keep a platform that is being phased out relevant. digital cluster without a virtual cockpit (eg: AUDI/VC) is just gilding the lilly. on the flip side the virtual cockpit is going to be an industry standard and audi along with nvidia did a great job with it. no question about it.
