Booo. Hit and run while parked
I don’t get how someone in the space next to me could even do this much damage. Only way it could’ve happened was by the car next to me pulling out and just turning their wheel way too much, presumably making contact with their left side front/side. From the height of the damage, could’ve been a truck? Right rear tire was askew, making the car undriveable. Wonder how the other car looked....I’ll never know. Unfortunately no cameras in the lot to investigate. Fingers crossed on repair time.

I don’t see how it could’ve happened any other way. The lot has a series of parking spaces, all in a row at a slight slant. That’s why I think it could’ve been a truck, turned the wheel way too much when backing out, and slammed on the gas and kept on going. It’s the only way the damage could happen. Maybe someone pulled in too fast, crushed my car, then put it in reverse and scraped back along the car causing the damage to my wheel. Either way there’s just not a lot of space considering it’s a one lane road used only to access the parking spaces in a strip mall. Cars shouldn’t be going much more than 10mph in that area. Oh well....only going to cost me $500 and some mental anguish. Upside is my door dings that were in both the front and rear passenger doors will get fixed for ‘free’. Lol

That is simply unforgivable. Clearly whoever did that knew the extent of damage caused. I hope that insurance makes you whole, and that karma dispenses it own brand of justice on the other driver.

I got rear ended a few months ago and the driver bolted. I suffered a great deal of anguish and there was only one remedy: carbon fiber. Lol. What I mean is that I used this as an opportunity to have some CF bits applied. Diffuser, mirror covers, front grille. Sucks but it looks better now than it did, at least imo.
Do you have this endorsement on your insurance: uninsured motorist - property damage? |

Wow, that really sucks. Welcome to Philly driving! Where did this happen exactly (so I can avoid that parking lot!)?

So sorry to see this.
I am glad that it is just damage to the vehicle though. Had you seen this while it was happening, it could have easily escalated to unwanted confrontation and more headache. 360 degree camera with parking mode is the way to go for insurance purposes.

I'm assuming you can only use it as evidence in fatal cases or injuries done during crash just to support that you are not at fault. In every other case insurance will not even ask for such video as they can't really use it. I want to believe it will help with insurance at least not blaming you for damages, but again I've yet to come across that kind of fact. Mostly it's "just in case" scenario why people want to install it without really knowing when they can use it and how if it comes to that. |

This is from lifehacker website:
"Dash Cam Footage May Help With Insurance Claims or In Court Dash cams aren’t completely useless when it comes to insurance, however. Some insurance companies may accept dash cam footage when trying to prove you’re not at fault in an accident. If your claim becomes a dispute, it’s always better to have more evidence than less. Having footage of an accident doesn’t guarantee that it will be used, however. According to Philadelphia attorney Scott Diamond, they don’t always provide a clear picture of what happened in a car accident: It’s just not so simple to decide who’s at fault at an intersection. I would say it’s very helpful, but it’s not conclusive evidence. In essence, it’s better than nothing, assuming your auto insurance provider will take a look at it. We got in touch with customer service at five of the the top U.S. insurance companies to see if they would be willing to accept and review dash cam footage. After multiple calls to different departments at Progressive, Geico, Esurance, Nationwide, and State Farm, we got an idea of how dash cam footage is generally considered: None of the providers had an “official” policy regarding dash cam footage and whether they would review it. In fact, most of the sales reps and customer claims reps weren’t even sure about it and the general consensus was “I don’t know, but that’s a good question…” Indeed. Most of the providers would let you send them dash cam footage, but it would likely be considered as equal as photographs taken post-accident. Taking pictures or video is encouraged (as is filing police reports and getting eyewitnesses), but video probably wouldn’t have any more weight to it unless it made someone’s fault extremely obvious. Review and use of dash cam footage would largely come down to the individual adjuster on your claim. If they think it helps they might use it, but most of them don’t expect it and can usually determine fault without it. "

Dude if I walked out and saw that! I'd turn right around and go and drown my sorrows in one of those tasty bunt cakes!
All I can say is more than likely a senior citizen! I can't tell you how many crazy things I've seen them do. Hell I knew a guy who was literally going senile and well into alzheimer's before they yanked his license. One women drove through the front of auto Europe dealership in Birmingham and they had to take her foot off the accelerator. List goes on and on! This is most likely what happens to you in the vid below she does pretty much to this car what was done to yours. Just watch this guy take out plenty of cars! Lol you'll be watching these like cat videos. |
