Interesting, what is your opinion based on? That people drive them to the ground? That's the 1st thing that comes to my mind.

Absolutely - I rent weekly and tell everyone I have ever known to stay away from rentals when buying and to a great extent, loaners.

The car in question was leased in Aug 2015, and was dumped at an auction 3 years later, just like it happens with all lease returns that franchise dealers don't want to keep on their lots.

That is truth for all those used car dealers in that area, couple times I been looking and there was some awesome vehicles down there and every time I sat down they came up with like $3K of some stupid fees, I walked away from like 3 different dealers with the same story, at the last dealer I asked the seller “are all this dealer own by the same owner” the guy look at me with the deer on headlight look, he said “no why do you ask’ I said because all of you come up with the same $3K of non sense fees, I stand up and walked away.

Maybe it's just me, but I don't get a feeling about these types of car dealerships.

They may be advertising $38k but when you sit down to do the numbers you'll find a series of "reconditioning fees", administrative fees, dealer and doc fees. I would be shocked if it is actually that price with only dmv and taxes added on top. If it is then there is something on the CF report or previously damaged.

Not bad. I bought a MY14 with very similar set up. Mine has ACC (No stop and go though)

With 39K miles I paid around 42K. Mine was CPO so that should also add value to the sale since it gave me piece of mind on the history of the vehicle. It so have me the ability to purchase the the maintenance plan as well.

If your not concerned with the warranty, then this is a decent deal. (I wouldn't though because I know how I treat rentals)

CPO means little more than that they might have put 3 new tires on it.

2016 X5 50i M Sport w/ DHP, NV, Led, B&O, etc. Has everything except for ACC Stop & Go -which in my opinion is not executed well anyways and I would trade in a heartbeat for DHP! 1 owner, no accidents - Priced well at $38K. I haven't come across one of these babies loaded under 40K since I bought mine in September!

I have no affiliation with this dealer, just sharing my findings.
Sorry for being an ignorant noob on this one, but I know DHP is dynamic handling package and B&O is Bang & Olufsen sound. What is NV?

Thanks!

Often the reason why it states "fleet vehicle" is if one owns a business they may register their personal vehicle as a company car to write-off the lease or mileage or whatever in-between. Doesn't always mean it was a livery or used as a true fleet vehicle for mulitple drivers.

"Fleet vehicles are groups of motor vehicles owned or leased by a business, government agency or other organization rather than by an individual or family. Typical examples are vehicles operated by car rental companies, taxicab companies, public utilities, public bus companies, and police departments."

Don't know about you guys, but this definition by Wikipedia alone is enough for me to stay as far away from any fleet vehicles as possible.

Out of the entities listed above: how many of them lease X5 or X5M? How many times have you seen the PD, Utility Company or local TLC using an X5? If this was a Ford Escape or a Crown Victoria, Dodge Charger, etc. Then sure most likely a municipality used it as a true fleet vehicle but an X5? Not likely. Our local Pizzeria has a fleet of four i3 and the son drives an M5 the father a B7 Alpina... All are registered under the business as Fleet but only the i3 are used for delivering food. This is not an isolated scenario. Many business owners lease under their corp/llc/etc if they can or if it makes sense despite being their personal vehicle.

Dealership corporate fleet of service loaners? Lots of questions about fleet ownership cars, I view them the same as lease cars or manufacturer cars... term rentals. Private ownership on its own is no qualifier either. Condition is king.

As that is a possible use as well and instantly disqualifies for me but typically the dealer discloses it was a demo/loaner and if not you can see it on the paperwork. The easiest way to tell what the vehicle was used for is condition like you stated above but long story short simply because it states "fleet or corporate fleet" does not mean it was a taxi or used by the local municipality.

I would go one step further and say that outside of the reach now rideshare service and similar, most upscale european fleet cars are not livery use or municipality use. Plenty of VWs in standard fleet use here though.

Around here if it is an Uber or Lyft vehicle it needs TLC plates and then it would state on the registration and CF report that it was fleet and or TLC. I am not sure about ZipCar and the like. Either way, most of us on here are quite picky and pedantic regarding our vehicles and if shopping used so once you see the vehicle you can tell right away the type of owner that had it simply by the state it is in.
