Delivery wait time

How long does it usually take for a X5 to be built from the south carolina plant and delivered to the dealer in western canada for pick up? Reason im asking is when i was shopping for a X5, the dealer i went to said he has a X5 that is "on its way to the dealer" with options and colors that i wanted. Since the suv is "on its way already" i placed a $5K deposit to hold it for me thinking i can pick up within a week or 2. Now this was done on Apr 19th. When i checked the build sheet on the sale persons computer, i spotted the estimated delivery date to be Apr 29th. I assumed the suv had already been built and is on a truck being transported across country already. Now its May 12th and i still have no updates on where my X5 is or when i can pick it up. Is it possible that the suv is still on a truck being transported across country for the past 3 weeks, or could it be that my suv was never "on its way" from the beginning and the factory didnt start building it until i put down the deposit.

It was likely never on its way.

When I go to the dealer and they said on the way, they literally meant tomorrow or something.

Get the production number from your dealer. You will be able to check the status on line. You can confirm if it was already built and shipped or where it is in the production stage. Good luck.

In Canada, at this point you are better of calling BMW Canada, asking for an update on production/delivery. You will need the VIN number as the production number stops working after the car has been built for some reason, that's what happened on my X5 order and my buddy's M3 here in Canada.

FYI, I did a factory order around April 19th and my car should be here sometime around the 23rd of May. I'm in Toronto though.

bumping this up

so i finally got a VIN for my X5 and i called BMW canada to inquiry about the status of the vehicle. apparently the vehicle is completed but is still at the factory, in the "waiting area?" which i can only assume it means its waiting to get on a train? i also asked the rep and was told this vehicle's build date is 11th week so that means march production. is this right in taking so long to be delivered?

Sounds odd that a March production is still at the plant. I imagine they are normally shipped right out to the dealers based on allocation. I'm sorry to say maybe there was a quality issue they had to correct? I could be wrong but I don't think they hold vehicles there. It's pretty much build and ship.

Good luck.

It does not sound right if the production was in week 11 that your X5 is not already in Canada. When I ordered my F10, not only did I track it with The VIN but I also requested the name of the vessel and master waybill number so that I could track the boat from Hamburg to New York. From the initial order to me driving away with the car was around 8 weeks.

It is my guess that your dealer had an order for an X5 and then made some changes to it before production started. I have been to the Spartenburg plant and they do not hold onto any vehicles unless there is a problem and they only build to customer or dealer order.

If you think it about it.. BMW is not going to ship your one car as soon as it leaves production. BMW would have to segregate all cars that are heading to the west coast, east coast, north etc and transport them together as much as possible. This may take some time based on how many are ordered by the dealers in their respective location.

u do have a point, but this is also a dealer that moves a large volume of cars where 60% of cars sold are x5s, so who knows. week 11 build date would also explain the estimated arrival date of apr 29th that i spotted on the computer. the mystery just continues lol.

Just possible this may have been one of the apprx. 1600 vehicles that they're fixing.

"More than 1600 Spartanburg US Production X3, X4, X5, and X6 vehicles were damaged in a hail storm at the plant. The vehicles have been placed on a vehicle hold while the plant repairs them using Paintless Dent Removal (PDR). It may take two months to complete repair work for all vehicles, sold vehicles are being prioritized. On a daily basis the plant will provide the VINs that have been repaired, routed through final inspection, QC'd and are ready for shipping. "

How do you know if your vehicle is one of the 1600 vehicles?

Bit of an update. I've been calling BMW canada every other day to check on the status. Every time I call it's "still in production". Well finally today I called n the rep said its been released to carrier. So that means hopefully another 2ish weeks n it should be here.

I'm confused! Didn't BMW tell you the production date was back in March and it was simply in the "waiting area"? Something doesn't add up here unless I'm missing a post or an update of some sort.
