What I meant was that it would be very close to the 2017 MY and almost a "year" older. Not sure when 2017's will start arriving unless he can't wait that long. Just my preference I guess.

The new Volvo XC90 T8 is a great alternative and almost better than the 40e plus has the 3rd row

Here's a great comparison article http://www.autocar.co.uk/car-news/ne...e40e-twin-test

But you are suggesting someone should wait without giving specific for which they are waiting (eg. what upgrades?). I just picked up 40e in January so obviously I am not in the market. And, my third row (ie the trunk) is for dog beds as well as Costco and Lowe's trips.

It might bring nothing but lower price for the 2016 like 2015 vs 2015 F10's. Though, I read rumors of getting all digital dash and who know when more than just the 2-series convertibles will get 4G sims with OTA map updates.

So, you are just advocating to wait just to wait. Thanks for the clarification.

Well, my wife couldn't wait!

We put in an order for a June-July delivery. We asked for the 2017 allocation but my Sales Rep mentioned the 40e and 35d was just released this Jan so likely an update end of year, rather than in the summer.

We also test drove one at BMW Toronto and the car is surprisingly quick off the line. There is a bit of lag between the transition to gas when you floor it but nothing my wife would complain about. The car is completely silent.

My wife is super excited that she can commute to work with electric only. It also helps that she can charge it at work too.

Specs:
- Premium Pkg
- M Sport
- LED Light Pkg
- Speed Limit info
- Full Clear bra
- Tint

We bought for the lonnng term (>10yrs) so lets hope this one last!

Does anyone know if the battery cells are replaceable like the "i" series cars?

Nope. It's August. He's still waiting. Nicely spec's 40e.

That seems weird...I've talked to dealers in Austin, San Antonio and Houston and they're all stating 4-6 weeks for delivery.

I only have two issues with the car so far. I do not like grey front grills and sometimes you cannot tell if the engine is started or not cause it is so quiet.

I went with Space Grey with Black interior.
That's impressive. You run it without AC/Heater on? I can only do around 16km (10 miles) on a single charge and battery has around 10% left.

Whats the mode you are running on (Eco-Pro/Comfort with Max edrive)? Additionally how's the traffic situation? Do you push the brake paddle more often and it's just costing most of the time?

Perhaps those ordering in Europe wait longer?

Ah, my bad. Very Texan of me to jump the gun and assume your father was near you since your location says Texas as well.

At least here in Canada there's a waiting list for 40e production slots. Apparently BMW cannot allocate enough slots for the car.

We ordered mid April and expect production in July, August delivery!

I wonder if it's because they are built in the US. But it still seems like the Americans get them VERY quickly compared to European buyers.

I see my father ordered his at the end of February and he's looking at August delivery. That is six months.

Fun fact: it seems he ordered it with 320 and 3DZ; very typical of Belgian to debadge everything.

I do not always get that distance on a full charge, but I can. When I do, I am in either EcoPro or Comfort with Max edrive with more conservative driving (ie less aggressive alternating between flooring and braking). Traffic is very mild in the morning commute; I would have to wait for traffic to pass in evening to make it back completely on a single charge.

In Southern California, I often have A/C and heated seats off in the Spring and Fall. Though, I am unsure how much auxiliary services (thermostat, DA+, radio) play into battery drain.

However, driving style and selected mode definitely does. I find battery regeneration is superior when I use battery saver and Sports mode in traffic. In the first 10 miles of a trip home from the airport, I was able to charge battery to 35%. There was an article someone else posted that gives a starting point for understanding and maximizing different driving modes.

I used to fill up a 7-series tank every 1.5 weeks; now, I fill up every 2-3 months. As more charging stations become available, I will always be all electric for work commute at least and fill up even less.

Thanks for the info.

Well, I live in a country close to equator so AC is must and I do not need heated seats ever . So I guess 10~14 miles is the range I'll be getting how hard I try. Wish they could've installed a bigger battery though.

I'm not sure that you are aware of the precondition feature that allows you to set a time of departure and the interior will be conditioned prior to departure. The benefit (other than having the interior cool if desired) is that this takes place while the car is in charging mode. It doesn't deplete the batteries to precondition the interior. A nice feature that I often use.

As a data point for UK customers - we ordered our X5 xDrive40e on the 14th March and it arrived at the dealer last week. Hopefully we'll get it in the next few days, was ordered as a company car (first time we've done so) through salary sacrifice so not entirely sure of the handover process.
