Replacing trim with knee pads from X5M?

Hi,

I really like the knee pads that come with X5/6M. Has anyone been able to retrofit them on an F15?

Thanks

I am scheduled for the change end of January. You have to wait for 8 to 10 weeks to get the part, unless you can produce a VIN for a X6 (F16) and hope the dealer accepts top order the part on that VIN. Otherwise, the parts have to be ordered as individual option and no guarantee they will fit F15 (even though the dealer said it's pretty obvious it does fit). Price is around 220 euro/side, installation probably around an hour.

Should be an easy swap.
I did a quick research on that before.
Let me spend more time today to research some more.

They will fit. My dealer will be ordering them for me once I work out the finish I want to go with.

I've got Mocha Nappa and while the obvious option might be the Alcantara finish from the M50d X6, the stitching will be bright white whereas the Mocha Nappa has a darker brown like stitch. The Alcantara would match the M Performance carbon/Alcantara trim perfectly.

The other alternative is the Merino leather from the X5M or X6M. It would be a good match also as it would look like the dash and door trim, however again white stitching would stand out quite badly.

I haven't thought about an individual order, though I'm not sure if I could even get a mocha Nappa knee pad with the darker stitching which would match the other interior.

The simplest implementation is for those with black Dakota as you can simply order the trim from an X6 and it will match the remaining interior perfectly.

elisiX I have black Dakota, so you are saying i should order the black knee pad from the X6 and it should have dark stitching?
Thanks

No, it will have white stitching still, however the Dakota leather of the knee pad in the X6 will match your interior. The last thing anyone will want is for the newly added knee pads to look out of place with your existing leather. So therefore it's less of an issue for Dakota interiors.

For me with Mocha Nappa, Dakota knee pads would be very much out of place, so it has to be either:

1. Alcantara knee pads from the X6 M50d (to match the M Performance Carbon/Alcantara trim I want to fit)
2. Merino leather knee pads from the X5M or X6M (to match the dash and door trim which is in black Merino or Nappa when you have Mocha Nappa)
3. Potentially, individual knee pads in Mocha or Black Merino/Nappa with darker stitching (though this is unlikely)

1 and 2 will overall suit, except for the crisp white stitching.

Mocha Nappa has a darker taupe colour stitch.

.

Just got an update. BMWNA doesn't want to release the part yet.
So, I guess we just have to wait or bring them in from Europe.

coming back to this one. I can confirm now that, if you choose to go for the X6/X5M knee pads, they do work on X5. Just had them replaced on mine today!

I think they are referring to the Pads on the drivers Rt knee (US Lft drive models) and passenger pads on the lft knee.
