Removing weather stripping from door to put door strap

Good morning Bimmerfans,

Curious to know if anyone has removed door weather stripping themselves in X5. I'm finding it difficult to do so. Is it suppose to be easy as they show it in pics for door strap installation. These door straps are suppose to hold down roof storage.

also do you recommend that instead of the door, I attach the door straps to the roof instead. I've shown how tightly they are currently being attached.

Hate to say it but just get the box. Way easier and you won’t end up scratching it to all hell
