Comfort rear seats

Those of you that have taken delivery so far - did you get this option?

Wondering if it may be worth it purely to add flexibility in cargo space - ability to roll the seats forward and make them more upright, but without having to fold them completely.

Thoughts welcomed

I ordered this option.

I have a 165 pound dog, I figured a few more inches of cargo space could make all the difference for the little guy!

My X5 should be delivered either today or tomorrow. Once it arrives, I’ll post pic of the comfort seats for you.

That'd be awesome - thanks! Likely have until mid next week latest to lock down my order.

I have them but to be honest, haven't tried other than the day I picked it up. When my wife gets back, I'll check to see if it works with the car seats attached, which it should. That's the reason I got them. A few extra inches for home depot trips without having to take seats out would be awesome (that and the extra space already in the X5 over the X3 we had...). I don't think I can really make them more upright with the car seats attached, but maybe the one that's rear facing. Not sure I would want to disrupt the seat though, even with no-one in it.

So my daughter threw up in the car (don't worry, it all stayed on her and the baby/car seat ). So I had to take hers out. But I'll see how it works with the front facing seat for now and let you know.

Ok so, as I expected, you can slide them with the car seat attached (not sure how it would even be possible not to since he whole seat moves, but good to know..). You gain a good 3.5 inches with the seats in the full recline. I think the BMW videos say 6" total if you put them upright.

Here are some pics with one reclined and all the way back, one reclined and all the way forward. Obviously the ability to move it with a rear facing seat depends upon whether you have someone sitting in the seat in front of the rear facing car seat, and how far up they can move their seat.

I haven't made a Home Depot trip with it yet, but this will be huge as my son can still sit in the seat in this forward position. Maybe a little tight for his feet, but he'll fit.

Here's the space in front of seat with it all the way up, front seat in my driving position (I'm 5'10).

Thanks! And sorry about the vomit - I hope she's OK! ;p

On the preview on BMWUSA's configurator the comfort seats look "odd" with the removed bolster in between the seat edge and the door - more so with the mixed color/black interior.

Any chance you could take a picture or two of that too?

Thanks. Sure, especially now that I still have one car seat out.. The bolster not being there actually helps with the car seats too. Since the bolsters aren't pushing them further into the middle of the car, leaves more room in the middle seat.

I just had my 2014 X5 50i delivered and I think 500$-back-comfort-seats are not worth ordering (not because of 500$ - its only 5-8$ a month extra)

Bad:
1. they are made with modular construction with a lot of mechanical part exposed and a lot of potential space under those seats, that eventually will be stuffed with candies, pens, small objects form my kids daily trips
2. they looks pretty cheap - too many things sticking out below seats
3. a lot of plastic parts between left/middle/right sub-seats
4. i like smooth look of one large back seat from my E70
5. This 500$ option basically same seats as with 3rd row option , just without actual 3rd row, you can bend those seats and get entrance like position for potential 3rd raw seats - you just going to see you trunk

Good:
1. Yes you can potentially get extra 3-5 inch of trunk space, but I think I would just drop back seats flat if extra space needed
2. I think by adding this option you are getting Split 40-20-40 option to drop seats flat, including pass thru for ski - but no ski bag included - I remember having one on my 2008 E70
3. Extra space storage in a back arm rest

If ordering today - would NOT order this option, and instead off it > Ventilated front seats.

FYI:
- back trunk mat from E70 X5 same size and fits perfectly in my F15 2014
- original BMW E70 front rubber mats - perfect for my F15

The rear seats fold regardless, would never be just one big back seat with no split. I think the 40x20x40 is standard now, with or without the comfort seats.

While I don't disagree with this point, it doesn't apply (or at least not so conveniently) if you have car seats in the car.

"1. Yes you can potentially get extra 3-5 inch of trunk space, but I think I would just drop back seats flat if extra space needed"

I think overall, if you have car seats in there, the comfort seats should be very useful and worth the $500. If not, I agree, they do look nicer with the side bolsters and more streamlined look (and without all the levers). But even if I never move them (which I will), the car seats fit better without the bolsters.

So I think it depends on whether or not you have kids in car seats. Booster seats are easier to deal with and maybe would make the comfort rear seats unnecessary, but not if your kids are going with you to the mall or home depot or wherever. Bottom line, they give you more space when you can't just drop the seats down.

For what it is worth, when you add the third row option, you basically get the exact same setup as Comfort Back Seat. I was at the dealership looking at a X5s while my M3 was getting all new fluids looking in the second row and by the way the seat are, I though it had the third row option and was kinda excited to see if it was the same as my e70. I move the seat to look in the back but was surprised when I flipped them forward, it had a regular trunk.

The only time I ever move the seats up is when the kids are getting in the back. On road trips if i need a tiny bit of space I will move them up just a smidge.

.

I would say worse, since too much plastic around sub-seats

Supposedly more, according to the BMW descriptions of the option. But to be honest, I didn't compare to see if it's noticeable.

I could not tell the difference between the two. I think it is all about adjustability. It is nice being able to adjust the recline/incline of the seats
