Stolen Key Fob
My Key Fob was stolen and was curious if the dealer is the only place to obtain a replacement? Second question is since the key fob was stolen I want to change the code in the vehicle for my other key fob. Is this something I can do or does the dealer have to provide that service?

Yes. the dealer is your first and only source for the fob.
I learned this the very hard way and after spending countless hours trying to discover an alternative. It doesn't exist. Only brand new/blank fobs can be programmed to your car's VIN. Programming can be done not by the dealer but by the regional BMW parts center, including the cutting of the new blade (which is sold separately). Despite what people may say, once a FOB is programmed to a VIN it cannot be formatted and reprogrammed to a different VIN. In theory, the same dealer may be able to remove the stolen fob from the list of active fobs in your car. Your best option is to ask the dealer to match Tischer's online price. |

BMW keeps us a few models out before we can get the software. We can do X5’s up to 13, but I imagine we won’t be able to do F15’s for a while. Luckily, it doesn’t hurt us. The folks who buy these cars (myself included) would normally go to the dealership first anyways.
