Order Placed

I placed the order for my new X5 yesterday. It seems like it has been a long journey, going thru the education and selection process for all the options, but here is the final build:

xDrive 35d
Sparkling Brown
Canberra Beige Dakota Leather
Luxury Line
451 Wheels w/RFT
Cold Weather Package
Driver Assistance Package
Driver Assistance Plus
ACC Stop & Go
Lighting Package
Premium Package
Dynamic Damper Control
Space Saving Spare
Aluminum Running Boards
Rear Window Shades
Multi-contour Seats
Comfort Rear Seats
Leather Dash
HK Sound System
Enhanced USB/Bluetooth + Smartphone Integration*
Destination

Now waiting for confirmation of the estimated build dates. It should be rather quick as they had a X5 d slot available.

Thank all for your suggestions and recommendation and even your comments about things that failed to please. All helped make the final decisions! I'm excited!

*Last minute addition based on the recommendation by CA

Congratulations !!!!!!!!

When I ordered my vehicle, I was the one who provided the dealer with the order guide. He didn't have one and they were not sure whats new in 2015.

Not sure if I have missed anything.

IIRC it was week 35. I'm trying to confirm.

Do you know what date corresponds to this week number?

Thanks! I double and triple checked the order so hopefully I got everything I want. You've been a big help!

HansRobert,

For PCD pick-up, were you able to pick the dates you want or they automatically assign you the date based on the production date? I wonder how many days they can park your car to be picked up at PCD after the car is completed.

I placed my order on 7/29. They told me they had an allocation slot. However, production is still not scheduled, according to the automated phone system and the website. I do have a production number. Is a production number at least confirmation that the dealer actually does have an allocation? Not that I don't trust what my dealer tells me, but...

Not an expert in is area but I believe there may be a difference between having a slot and when that slot is scheduled. For example, the dealer might have slots for MY2015 but they might not be for builds until later (Sept, Oct, Nov, etc).

OK, thanks. That sounds about right. They were pretty vague about timing... I couldn't pin anyone down on a schedule. Patience, patience.

Once your build is complete, I think you will get a confirmation from pcd saying that your appointment is confirmed.

Nothing that I can think of that you need to be aware.

My cars production week is 36. I have setup pcd date of 9/4. Hopefully it goes through this week when relating to your order

When you place your order, dealer can select a date based on your delivery week. You can request a date. PCD are pretty accommodating and you can find a slot easily. I think they will hold the car for around a month. May be more, not sure.

There's actually 2 parts to that question. Yes, they have a slot. The next question, what BUILD WEEK is the slot? That's the part that they are neglecting to tell you. And, apparently, the build week that they had was a bit further out there which is why your car isn't in production yet. It's possible, if you hit everything right, to have a car go into production the week you place the order and have it finish production within 3 weeks of actually signing the papers. But you need to have a dealer with a car ready to go down the assembly line; most won't have that (but they can swap for it with other dealers).

Thankfully this forum has given many of us insight into how this works. The system allows far too much "BS room" for the dealer, but, if you nail them down (do you have something in status 111, what the production week, etc), you can get a really good idea of your build timeline.

You are correct about "What build week is the slot?". In my case it happened that the dealer had already traded a slot with another dealer for a 35d. That slot was for week 35 and I was able to use it for my X5.

All in all, four weeks from order to delivery is satisfactory for me.

Also another thing is, marking the order as customer sold makes it priority 1 and bumps it up couple weeks or more than that, depends on the availability of time to build.

I've given three dates to the BMW folks at PCD. I'm currently waiting for them to select a day from those three dates for picking up my X5. Apparently they will contact me directly with all the necessary information, bypassing the dealership.

I don't know when I'll be paying for it or who I will pay but I'm sure some money will be leaving my hands before I drive it away!

All the money leaves before you go to PCD :P you need to complete all the work with your dealer only. PCD only does delivery of the vehicle.
