I hate to break the news, I have been following this thread regarding the brakes.
But, now I have to break the news which Z know about it.
For you who bought a brand new set so called MPBK (M Performance Brake Kit), you guys got fooled by BMW. The MPBK is actually E70 X5M / E71 X6M stock brakes.
The latest version came in blue painted front and black rear, that why Z got that color combo. The kit on his car came off from 11 miles X5M, which I got for a killer deal and even before the MPBK was released. I hope that cleared the confusion why the rear was black, and not blue as atomic80 and wdimageneer.
I guess it cost a few hundred extra to have the rear caliper in blue.

That's interesting. I was actually wondering why I saw the blue ones on ebay that looked exactly like the previous year models. Do you know why BMW changed the colorway? What are the cost differences? Thanks for the info, Ben.

@Opasha, cost difference is just a matter of finding a good deal on the low mileage used set. I was dead lucky on that set.
Technology wise, I do prefer the Brembo as they are 6 pistons front and 4 pistons rear.
I know that it is overkill, but it is braking system, there is not such thing as a shame or waste on being able to stop at shorter distance.

Ben, I'm all about good deals, lol . Your Brembo brakes are sick...at least you'll be safer if you're ever in a bad traffic area or going somewhere at high speeds where you need to brake really hard in order to avoid an accident. That's also one of the main reasons why I want to upgrade my brake system. The current brakes aren't bad, but for a 6000lb 450+ vehicle...it's just smarter to upgrade in my humble opinion. I'll keep looking around. If I don't find any good deals, I'll be sure to hit you up. Let me know if you find anything good if you get time. Thanks, bud!

Just to clarify (got a bit confused on BMW ETK): 34_2099 (Sports brake retrofit kit) AKA 34112348054 is basically 34_2165 (M Performance front wheel brake - replacement) + 34_2166 (M Performance rear wheel brake - replacement)?

Wow Don't know how I miss this thread! What a beautiful ride Ray, I agree going aftermarket definitely stands out more than OEM offerings. I thought you need a drop with these 22's, but it is really fine as it is after seeing these pictures.

These AC wheels really need large brakes since the spokes are so thin and far apart. I think you already got every angles covered. =) congrats!!

I have my eyes set on Hamann anniversary Evo and Hartge classic 2 right now, I think Hartge wheels are forged so that might sways my decision a bit. =)

Hi all,

What is the size of the front rotors on the M performance brake kit ? Are they as big as the Brembo ? I'm bit surprised they're not cross drilled ?

Mine are non-staggered 40 all the way around. If these are staggered 22x10, 22x11 - the offset should be 40 front, 35 rear to my knowledge. Or at least something very close to that so they don't stick out of the fender.

You're very welcome. Trust me...many of us started planning such things before we got our X5 .

I hope you enjoy every bit of it when it finally arrives . Feel free to ask any other questions you may have.
