Slow sat nav
Hi all,
I updated my sat nav maps to 2018-1 NEXT NBT, all seemed to go well (it took about an hour from a USB drive) however since the update the NAV system has gone slow. When searching for a destination it sometimes takes ages to start the route and during the route the sound for nav cuts in and sometimes sits quiet for 30 secs before the radio comes back on. Even re-routing can be slow. Also if I try and display the version of maps, sometimes it shows but other times the page is blank. I started the install of 2017-2 that I had before that worked fine, but after about 40 mins it was only on 3% (before the upgrade was much quicker). I wonder if the hard drive is failing ? Is there a way to test the hard drive ? Or has the 2018-1 update caused the problem? Any help appreciated Richard |

I read that the 2018 one has better RTTI on more minor roads so wanted to try it. I find that the nav redirects me onto minor roads sometimes and then they are busier (the RTTI doesnt show any traffic on these) |

What is your source for this? I haven't seen new roads for RTTI in the last many years.

I always download it through official BMW application, I pay 99EUR for 2 years worth of updates (4 updates) from the Connected Drive Portal. |

I wish the RTTI covered ramps/interchanges better than it does. I find many gaps in the "colors" traffic layer which then are not taken into the + calculation. |

I have the exactly same problem, but that was happened since last month rather than since the new map, the first destination after starting the car is loading very quick (or to say, as what the loading speed was as before), but since the second destination loaded, everything will become very slow. The dealership has noticed my issue and booked me in on next Monday, will let you know what will it be after

Is there any update on this issue as I've just updated my Nav to the 2018-1 from the Connected drive map update service and it too has gone terribly slow.
Routes load very slowly, RTTI/ETA take an age to update, diversion route are terribly slow to load and if I know a quicker route than the suggested one (when near home), the Nav continues on its planned route rather than updating to my new route as it did before the update. |

Just spoke to BMW UK and they suggest that since Saturday there has been a back end issue with their RTTI system and this is the probable cause of the slow Nav on some vehicles. Apparently, not all cars are effected and I was asked for my VIN number so an update can be sent to my car.
I'd suggest anyone with slow Nav issues to call BMW UK and log their vehicle. |
